These stormwater basins along the Deer Creek @GreatRiversSTL trail were once home to diverse native species planted in partnership with @DeerCrkAlliance and @mobotgarden. Very sad to see them as lawns, just like the areas across the trail that had been planted by @RdPWC.

Dr. Hiru Becknell is a great lesson planning companion. So many great ideas, although most of them involve naps and head scritches. 🤷

@JulieBrill5 @itatiVCS Thank you! I would love to be connected with some of your former students who took that route. When I was researching going into teaching with a Ph.D. in the sciences there was very little on the internet.

@RachelBecknell @itatiVCS Former grad students in my lab have gone on to many types of careers, including high school teaching. It takes a change of mindset for profs to stop thinking that the only successful career is in academia. Good on you for realizing what you wanted to do and achieving your goal!

I love that I get to do field work as part of my job. Some days, I don't love the consequences. I've had itchy bug bites for 2 days. Annoying, but manageable. The last straw was when I was brushing my teeth last night and found a tick...in my MOUTH!! Today I'll be in the office.

The stories of scientific discovery in this book had me literally crying over the sheer wonder of the natural world. I knew that I wanted to explore nature for the rest of my life because of this class. Thanks Dr. Bob Marquis.

Remarkable Creatures was assigned reading for my college Intro to Evolution class and was one of the exciting aspects of that class that hooked me.

A fun start to my classroom library. I figured that these awesome books were just wasting away on my shelves, so why not let my students enjoy them?

@Ramsey_Cooper76 @SteveSchmidtSES Also a sewist. I think the wrinkling indicates that they're too tight. The drag lines under his belly. Also the smile lines on his pant legs indicate fitting issues.

@SteveSchmidtSES Guys, this is from a woman sewist. The fabric in the pants is too wrinkled. The sheen is different than the jacket. The suit should be a palm beach weight wool for this time of year, but the pants look like cotton. The wrinkling makes me think they were or are wet.

@Prairie_Fairy_ There are also a number of great web comics that I enjoy where the main characters are queer. If you're into comics I can drop a few recommendations for you.

@Prairie_Fairy_ I second Rivers Solomon. I just finished reading their most recent novel and it was so good. An Unkindness of Ghosts was also good.
