welp I suddenly have a random craving to study Romanian again I guess it makes a bit of sense since I was thinking about Balkan languages the other day, and the influence of Latin, and was working on Hungarian just recently and it's relatively low effort to dabble in...

This Christmas, I'm determined not to mask during supper. Bring on the 'why are you so quiet' questions and rude comments about my looks, I dare you.

Thank you so much for the wonderful time at the #Sign10 conference at the University of West Indies in Trinidad & Tobago 🇹🇹 with so many inspiring on-stage presentations and posters 😊 And the whole conference being in International Sign without sign-to-voice interpreting!

@AdamCSchembri In many Southern Sinitic languages the retroflexes developed in Middle Chinese were dropped and thus these sounds are often merged with their alveolar counterparts in the Standard Chinese pronunciation used in the southern parts of the Sinitic area.

@AdamCSchembri ‘Flat tongue sounds’ and ‘warped tongue sound’ are literal translations of 平舌音 píng shé yīn (alveolar /t͡s/, /t͡sʰ, /s/) and 翹舌音 qiào shé yīn (retroflex /ʈ͡ʂ/, /ʈ͡ʂʰ/, /ʂ/). 1/2

(Socio-)phoneticians: can someone explain 'flat' versus 'warped' tongue variation in Mandarin? I'm not familiar with what these terms refer to.

I'm tired of studying Indonesian on Duolingo. That's just not what I should be doing to improve it at this point. So for my out-of-spite usage of Super Duolingo, I've decided on another language. Any guesses which one? HINT: It's not a constructed language like English.

@colaceirios You will get the rest of the names along the way. TY Lithuanian has these extensive vocabulary lists at the beginning of every lesson, I think.

While at my parents', I came across the photo album they made for my sister when she turned 25. They made one for each of us at that age. I flipped through the photos. My sister at 1, 2, 3, 4... 12, 13, 14... 23, 24, 25. The end of that chapter became the end. There won't be 28.
