During a @PA_HouseApprops #pabudget hearing, I spoke with the PA State System of Higher Education & PA Commission for Community Colleges about my proposal with Rep. Kristin Marcell (R-Bucks) to establish dedicated funding for community colleges to support these programs.

PA's community colleges play a vital role in preparing 1st responders with the skills they need to address emergencies, but they face a pervasive issue:

Schools are the groundwork for a democratic culture, so when I spoke with DOE Sec. Carrie Rowe during the House Appropriations Committee #pabudget hearing,I urged the department to increase state support & incentives for schools & educators to implement a robust civics curriculum

We spoke about strategies for attracting workers to staff PennDOT district offices like ours that are having difficulty maintaining adequate staff levels.

I had the chance to express my gratitude for PennDOT District 6 staff during the #pabudget hearing for PennDOT and commend Sec. Mike Carroll for the agency’s success with addressing unique challenges in their broad scope of work.

I also asked him about the success of the Disaster Recovery Assistance Program first authorized by the General Assembly in 2023 to step in when federal recovery funding isn't available.

I spoke with @PEMAHQ Director Randy Padfield during the agency’s @PAHouseApprops #PaBudget hearing about the status of possible revisions to Title 35, the code that stipulates emergency management standards for every municipality in PA. youtu.be/7drXebfZmNQ

A good starting point, now it's time for the legislature to get to work fine tuning the plan. I’ll be part of that process as a member of House Appropriations – our budget hearings with the leaders of each state agency, department, and commission begin at the end of February.

I was honored to cohost a Veteran's Luncheon with @RepTimBrennan last Friday in Doylestown. It was great to connect with our veterans, answer questions they had about our work, and to hear from former Congressman and 32nd Army Under Secretary @PatrickMurphyPA.

Had an excellent visit @ Sheet Metal Workers Local 19 Training Center to see their apprenticeship programs in action. We fought for state budget investments in apprenticeships because they build stable careers & the skilled workforce PA needs for our future.
