Just out of curiosity… who out there has actually talked to someone born in the 1800s during their lifetime?

We have 2 converted farm buildings on our farmyard that we let out to holidaymakers. We never hit the Welsh government’s recent target of letting them out for over 182 days a year (even though they’re available all year) because we’re inland, not in the coast. They’ve just sent us a backdated premium (additional 50%) council tax bill for the last three years. It’s over £26,000. I am seriously concerned for my husband’s mental health. We can’t pay that. We can’t sell them as they’re not suitable for permanent accommodation. We can’t rent them out as they’re not classed as permanent accommodation. What the actual fuck are we meant to do here?!!

I know we won’t be counting overnight for the Senedd election and will be kicking off the Friday morning, but will we have an exit poll at 10pm, do we know? @jamswilliams85 @adrianmasters84

@TowerHamletsNow please stop destroying our conservation area and listed estate. The pavement survived 125 years on our estate, an important conservation area. Today an unqualified contractor came and took away the original pave stones and tarmac over the area. Stop all work!

I remember as a young RPSB member reading in "Birds" magazine about a scheme to reintroduce red kites - then-extinct in the UK - to Welsh woodlands. A few decades later they are everywhere. A real conservation success story. Although some farmers and other birds might not agree.

@MrsBlodwen @TalkTV I was thinking this morning about the 70s fuel crisis when they put a 50mph limit on motorways. Engines are very different now but there will always be those seeking an excuse to slow us all down.

@TalkTV can you address this nonsense about ‘drive more slowly to save fuel’. If I drive at 60-65 miles an hour I get 60 miles per gallon. 120 miles takes 2 gallons. If I drive at 25-30 miles an hour I get 40 miles per gallon. 120 miles takes 3 gallons Slow is expensive

@JoStevensLabour @Ed_Miliband He’s actually wrong though Jo. There isn’t an international market for UK produced gas. It can only be sold internally or to countries UK is connected with. UK is invariably the highest bidder as we can’t fall back on storage.

Watch this. @Ed_Miliband is spot on. What we came into government to do; bring down energy bills, make the UK energy independent and create tens of thousands of jobs through investing in renewable energy infrastructure and supply chains was right and it’s even more important now
The Labour Party@UKLabour

The Labour Government is taking £150 off the cost of your energy bills. And we're taking the action needed to bring down bills for good by investing in homegrown energy so we don't remain at the mercy of international markets.

“I graduated from my undergraduate degree last summer… and I have £90,231 of student loan debt.” Gina Tindale, 22, who went to university from a low income background, says the necessity to take out a larger maintenance loan has significantly added to her debt. #Newsnight

@DAaronovitch @afneil @portraitinflesh In 81/82 I took part in Uni Interpol/Strategic Studies Dept Crisis game in which the US took on the then newish Islamic Republic. The Ayatollah was assassinated. Straight of Hormuz closed. US occupied Kharg Island.

That Trump started the attacks on Iran without even having the semblance of a plan to keep the Strait of Hormuz open is both a mystery and a scandal — from which he might not recover politically. Republican grandees in swing seats/states now beginning to panic, flooding White House with calls to ‘do something’ as gas [petrol] prices soar.

Posts have been circulating regarding an appeal for donations in relation to a lack of pillows at Glan Clwyd Hospital. I've checked with the Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board. Here's their response.
