Congratulations to the 2023 World Food Prize Laureate, Heidi Kühn of the United States! Kühn will receive the World Food Prize in October for her farmer-focused development model that revitalizes farmland, food security, livelihoods and resilience after devastating conflict.

This is ‘how’ Roots of Peace adheres to the strict new laws, yet is still able to work beyond the walls to empower Afghan women to feed their families with dignity.

Now Farziah has hired 11 other women from her village to help her keep up with orders. With more and more women now working from home, Farziah is working to create a group of household producers so that women can share know-how and resources.

BEYOND THE WALLS💫 Afghan women know how to make the most of limited resources. In conservative Kandahar Province, Farziah has been making jam and pickles for several years out of her home and selling them in the local market.

The trainings reduced losses from codling moth to less than 10% while improving overall yields by over 50%. 📈

Codling moth were destroying 90% of apple production in Afghanistan and the farmers and technicians had no solution. 🍎 Our team introduced inputs and a training program to combat codling moth while also providing trainings on best practices.

USAID's Agriculture Marketing Program (AMP), implemented by Roots of Peace, provides grants and incentives that give Afghan agribusinesses room to grow.
