@mfinneygolf Fair enough Michael. I respect Mac O’ Grady tremendously too, which was my original reason for replying to your post. Technology will evolve, and one day there will probably be someone saying Michael Finney’s research and data is old and repugnant. It is what it is.
English

I respect Mac O’Grady as a golfer and as a teacher. I do not respect the faux science jargon that he added to golf instruction.
The Search for the Perfect Swing was published in 1968 - it was based on the hard physical sciences. Technology used was from the 1960s - the physics was based on the 1700s.
The Golfing Machine (which birthed MORAD) was published in 1969 - it was based on “seems as if” science.
Everyone on my original list has made proclamations of what they THINK the kinetics of the golf swing are. All of them were guessing from what they think they see on video. And in most every instance, they were completely wrong with their guesses.
That was my point.
English

Manzella (and Jacobs) falling into the long time trap of guessing at the kinetics while looking at a video….
Here are some of the people that have done that with less than stellar results:
Kelvin Miyahara
Andy Plummer
Mac O’Grady
Homer Kelley
Jeff Martin
Brandel Chamblee
Greg Rose
Divining kinetics from kinematic observation is a rough game. More often than not, the guesser is wrong.
Luckily, there is quality inverse dynamics research out there that gets us much closer to the truth. Someday soon, an instrumented grip will give us even more insight into club handle kinetics.
In the meantime, guessing at what you think you see on video is a losing proposition.

@mfinneygolf I read to learn Michael. I had to look up what ‘silo 2’ is, as that’s your term. Those who came before you, did not have the technology and information that you have, but inspired many (tech failed you on the English but not on the deletion). Respect is nice.
English

@SamC900 Voice dictation failed me - threw shade. Sorry about that, Sam. Didn’t mean to disappoint you.
I’m tired of silo 2 insults of golf swing mechanics. I’m here to tamp down bad information. If you don’t like it, you can always not read.
English

@mfinneygolf Well I hope you’re 100% indisputably correct on everything to throw shade like that

Just awaiting eye surgery and scrolling phone, found this from a previous century....tidy round that! Classy place @FerndownGC #lucky

Be careful with trying to add “lag”. I think of lag as a byproduct of the speed you’re generating but some people seem to think it’s a prerequisite to hitting it better. Just consider that from the transition you have .3 sec to get rid of all that angle and it takes a lot of strength and skill to do it. I have way more lag back in 2018 (red shirt) but I hit it way further and better in 2023 (blue). In fact, a lot of work I’ve been doing the last yr is trying to get RID of lag.

Everything about this clip is it. The engrossment, the education, the excitement, the execution. Probably the most outstanding for me from the perspective of competing at golf.. is Jack’s routine. Watch intently

The timing of Tom Weiskopf’s call going into this shot isn’t talked about enough.

That must be false.. Fed ex the PGA Tour’s biggest sponsor has invested millions in Saudi Arabia
NUCLR GOLF@NUCLRGOLF
🚨#NEW via @golfweek: AT&T is stopping their sponsorship of the Byron Nelson. “According to multiple sources, the Tour had Raytheon Technologies, one of the largest aerospace and defense manufacturers in the world, ready to sign on the dotted line but Tour Commissioner Jay Monahan nixed the deal at the last minute because the company sells missiles to Saudi Arabia.”

@Meandmygolf More left lean in transition than in the past? Unusual right arm move on the downswing. Extremely passive through the ball, Rai man is brilliant 💪
