HELP ALIYYAH GET A LIFE-SAVING KIDNEY TRANSPLANT Hello everyone, My name is Aliyyah Ariganjoye, a graduate of University of Ilorin. I graduated last year though. I got diagnosed with lupus in 2024. I was in my 200 level second semester then. In fact, we were in our exam period as at then. It all started with foamy urine for a very long time. No flares, nothing aside from that. I thought it was a normal thing till I started treating for infection and took different pills. When the swelling was getting worse, that was how it dawned on me that my kidneys are failing. They were crying for help while I was busy enjoying my life. Fast forward to April 2024, my face had already become very swollen. I had to travel back to Lagos to meet my parents, so we took the bold step to visit the Lagos State General Hospital and my case was treated as an emergency. I thought very soon I would be home, but at this moment I was not urinating again. For weeks, I didn’t urinate. I spent weeks in the hospital alone, crying my eyes out. Something like this had never happened to me before. It was my first time experiencing the coldness of not sleeping on your bed and having to deal with other people with several conditions. When I thought it was over and that I could now do a few things on my own like to poo and urinate, I was happy that once I got back on my feet everything would be fine. Alas, the doctors came in with my results and in her words, she said: “YOU HAVE A CONDITION CALLED LUPUS!!!”

(2/2) When I heard it, immediately I remembered the actress that went public about it, that she won’t live more than 5 years. This is a lot for me. The doctor continued that it can be managed and with proper management you can reduce your flares, especially with lifestyle changes and eating the right foods. At this stage, I was at stage 3 kidney disease. This affected me a lot. My confidence was gone, my physical appearance, my gut was very bad. I cut out a lot of food. Like in a confused state, navigating how to start living life again, I didn’t see anyone with the condition to talk to. I was just alone, people bringing different advice. Until I met someone at the hospital one day. She gave me the courage that she has passed through this stage and that I would be fine. She gave me tips. I now had someone to share my feelings with, someone who understands and explains why this is happening, what I needed to stop eating and so on. But the question keeps ringing in my head: WHY ME? WHY DOES THIS HAVE TO HAPPEN TO ME? WHY NOW? The “why” questions keep coming. In fact, till now I’m still asking why me. But thank God for family and loving people around me. I couldn’t have been able to stand up till this moment. The total cost of my treatment is ₦40,000,000. So far, ₦12,000,000 has been raised. We still have a shortfall of ₦28,000,000. This is not easy for me to share… But I want to live. I still have dreams. Please, I am asking for your help 🙏 Any amount you can give, any share, any support… it means everything to me.
