Trump is going to take 5 thousand if not more USA troops out of Germany because Germany doesn't seem to be a real ally of the USA, but that's not all. There may be higher tariffs too because Germany for all intents and purposes said Iran was 'humiliating' the USA (which is not true). President Trump has been critical of Germany's stances when America for the most part underwrites the nation’s defense even though Germany has partnered economically with adversarial nations like Russia and communist China. With friends like this, who needs enemies. Currently, Merz’s Christian Democratic Union and the Christian Social Union in Bavaria are behind in the polls - The newer Alternative for Germany (AfD) is ahead in the polls by as much as 5 points - There is more and more dissatisfaction in the economy and continued problems with mass migration in Germany. Many if not most Americans think it would be better use of the USA troops here at home to help the DHS, border patrol and ICE do what has to be done.

This is quite obsolete. Washington will treat Brussels as an enemy. Because it is. Having Trump fail is Brussels's top priority. More important even than prolonging the war in the Ukraine. (Granted, not by much.)

Germany has missed NATO’s 2% defense spending target for nearly twenty years. Last week Chancellor Merz called Washington’s handling of Iran humiliating. 5,000 U.S. troops are coming home from Germany. That is about 14% of the 36,000 American service members stationed there. The Pentagon confirmed Friday. A full brigade combat team and a long-range fires unit. Gone within 6 to 12 months. Trump told reporters Saturday the cuts will go “a lot further” than 5,000. Defense Secretary Hegseth ordered the drawdown after a Pentagon review of U.S. posture in Europe. America has subsidized European security since 1945. Why keep 36,000 troops in a country whose chancellor called Washington’s handling of Iran humiliating?
