A coronal mass ejection (CME) has struck Earth! This CME lifted off the Sun between the 17th and 18th of March 2026 and arrived at Earth late last night (about 22:19 SAST), causing G2-G3/Moderate to Strong storms (Kp 6-7). More storms are expected! Stay tuned for more updates!

@NNMaphitha Last week there was some activity, a geomagnetic storm was in effect on the 15th and 17th of February see figure below, however; these were just minor storms. Geomagnetic storms usually affect high frequency communications.

The expected geomagnetic storm has arrived at G4/Severe conditions. The geomagnetic storm is expected to continue throughout tomorrow (Tuesday, 20 January) with G1 to G3 conditions and a possibility of further G4/Severe storm levels. Read more here: shorturl.at/NlmVL
