@LeeandLie FWIW, that specific cable is a QSFP to SFP split DAC (Direct Attach Copper) cable — it takes one 40 Gbps or 100 Gbps port on a network switch or router and connects it to up to four 10 Gbps or 25 Gbps ports on another switch or server. (They are definitely modern!)

Well this is ✨interesting✨! Turns out, macOS already supports what it needs to run Intel binaries with a non-Rosetta emulator, after Rosetta dies. It's behind a private entitlement for now, but still! Wine+FEX+ARM64EC anyone? ^^

Rosetta 2 requires almost the entire OS to have Intel support. That's how it works. Everything that isn't a kernel driver runs as Intel code when you use it. When macOS fully drops Intel support, Rosetta 2 stops working. That's why they're doing this.

@Lina_Hoshino @jimscard Vanishingly few, I suspect. My question is, would Apple dedicate engineering resources to supporting enough of x86-64 to run Wine vs enabling just what's needed for x86-64 Mac binaries? (*Is* there a significant delta between the two, for that matter?)

@SpecMode @jimscard How many of those are Mac-only though? It kind of makes sense to say "if you want to run natively on AS release an AS port, otherwise people get to run the Windows version on Wine".

@SpecMode Yup. Maybe they even only mean Windows games too, since it seems unlikely they'd go through the effort of re-doing a completely different Rosetta approach for macOS, but this all makes perfect sense for Wine.
