@mrsnickhodge @GrandPrixDiary Marketing has its place. And the sport is attracting enormous audiences. But F1 cars absolutely should not coast into a sixth gear corner on a qualifying lap. That’s the engineering monkey running the zoo. And the walls of its cage are now made of ‘show’, not ‘pursuit of speed’.

Three F1 world champions know what they are talking about. The cars have been neutered, just so Audi can flog Q4 e-tron’s to people who eat lentils and wear itchy jumpers. Just wait for the pious advertising campaigns to come..

@GrandPrixDiary It’s different this time around. They’re all invested and the teams grow in value every year. Ten of the 11 teams will turn a healthy profit this year, and Cadillac will within four. There is no reason to stop, and that means they will continue to push agendas.

Well it’s been at least a week since F1 made a decision that flies in the face of logic and reason. Like I always say, give it a choice and F1 will make the wrong one every time - and almost always in the name of ‘entertainment’. This one is idiotic.

This is an interesting list! Might have switched two and three around and I’ve never been convinced by James Hunt beyond childhood worship, but it’s all the opinion of someone I respect highly and worthy of debate. Hard to argue with #1.

I got to speak to Jerry a few times and he was always polite, kind and patient with my questions. If you were a child when GV was at his zenith, and you haven’t read Gerry’s book, I don’t believe you’re in a position to argue all the merits of the great man. It’s that essential.

Very sad to hear of the passing of brilliant #F1 author and journalist Gerald Donaldson. Two of his books are among my all-time favourites and ‘Grand Prix People’ (my version is now quite weathered over the 35 years I have had it) enchanted me so much when I bought it as a teenager it made me want to work in #F1. So I’ve to thank Gerry an awful lot for putting me on this career path and inspiring me all those years ago.
