Allow me to provide a swift dose of reality to this discourse... The Chargers social job isn't underpaying anyone. A thousand people probably applied for this role. It's a calculated bet and it's asking if the right person will bet on themselves. 12 to 24 months. That's how long the person will be in this role. Go in get reps inside one of the best operations in the league, and come out the other side as a director-level candidate with a resume line that carries weight in every room. I want everyone in this industry to make as much money as possible. But salaries are decided by the market. Entry level at a pro sports team in a high-demand creative role has always been competitive for a reason. A harsh reality... It's market rate for what the role actually is... a starting point to launch a career. Show up, absorb everything, and leave better than you came. Whoever gets the job could likely be a Director of Social in professional sports in less than 5 years and much of that would've been accelerated by getting this role.

In 2026 the part of the deal where teams have to invite March Madness MBB to collaborate, it makes all the sense in the world to just have it be with all of the videos team content people record. That Nebraska video you mention will get arguably the most amount of views any video recap they put out the entire year. Would’ve been at least 200,000 views March Madness MBB could’ve added on, and that’s safely a low estimate.

PARTICIPATING TEAMS posting content doesn't hurt the NCAA in the slightest. In fact, their content only helps and enhances the product because they're in the middle of it. I understand all of this is about money, but they ain't losing money when a team posts a cinematic recap.

That’s not the point. Fans all year have gotten an inside look at their teams through the staff hired by the athletic department and sometimes (fair amount of P4’s) directly with the team. CBS/Turner has a ton of access to teams in March Madness but in terms of familiarity and raw emotion from the student-athletes that is usually felt most through the internal creative team and what they capture. Chances are the angle of the team videographer is similar to one of the March Madness content crew on the court but that same videographer typically makes the team recaps that fans love to follow along with all year. You see it with Purdue, Nebraska, and BYU to name a few where their recap videos have a specific title and fans yearn for that after every big win. If anything it’s unintentionally depriving fans of teams content they’ve gotten the entire year (including conference tournaments).
