It's possible this season will be the Sabres best shot at a deep playoff run. We don't know if Lindy will be back. We don't know if Alex Tuch will be back. We don't know if the goaltending will be this good again next year. Florida will be back.

I also believe if they get rid of him, it’s over this season. They put themselves here & they just have to break the drought & either keep him or let him walk.

Giving either 8-year deals at the same age with the amount of money we’re talking about for Tuch proves the point I’m making. 3-4 years? Let’s do it, but not 8.

As has been the case, if it’s this term/AAV or nothing then let someone else do it. He’s been a good player & deserves to get paid but his style isn’t exactly known for aging gracefully + you can already see him losing a step. Sabres can’t in good conscience go max term here.

@straightsabres I still think you pay it. People are always worried about what it’ll be or look like in 5 years, but what about NOW? Premise of the tank/rebuild was doing it for a future that never really showed up. We’re here, now, & this works. Let’s start playing for now.

@TrueGregadeth “Get rid of good players” is a bit of a straw man here. You don’t pay it bc the likelihood we’re dreading the deal by like year 4 with 4 years of $10+ million to go are higher than the deal having good value by year 4/5/6. Go out & trade for a mid 20s F to give that $10+ mil to.
