In the last few weeks, Alberta separatism has dominated headlines. Whether we like it or not, this debate is here, it's getting louder - and the pro-Canada side needs to show up. Let's talk about why and how we push back against Alberta separatism and fight for Canada. 🇨🇦

@Martyupnorth So you are saying “a lot of people” have our personal information. How many? I find it untenable that you are making light of this breach without thought for the safety and security of Albertans.

A lot of people got a letter like this one last night. It's a "cease and desist" letter, similar to the one delivered in person to the Centurion Project leaders by Elections Alberta and 7 RCMP cruisers last week at a public event in Edmonton. A couple of observations. 1) It was delivered by email. 2) It's not signed, and has no official address. 3) I tried acknowledging receiving the letter by replying to the sender, but my email bounced back. I got an "address not found" error. It came from CEOdirective@elections.ab.ca 4) Their choice of the word "unauthorized" in the last paragraph is interesting. 5) It was sent after 6:00 pm. Some poor clerk at Elections Alberta is probably not happy about all the extra workload in 2026 (recalls, citizens initiatives, by-elections...) My end of year prediction was that 2026 was going to be the year of The Great Awakening.

Jason Kenney's message to Alberta separatists: "You guys have no realistic prospect of getting your 50% and even if you do then we go into endless and I think pointless negotiations that will lead nowhere."

Aside from your most fundamental beliefs, don’t commit to any opinion so fully that you paint yourself into a corner given more time and understanding. And if you do, don’t be so foolish as to not change your paradigm when you know better.

Do you have questions about the St. George’s Cross on Alberta’s flag? It’s the Crusader Cross that was adopted from the Christian Byzantine Empire by St. George during the Crusades, and dates back to the Nicaean Council. It represents Warriors of Christ and has be adopted by hundreds of nations since the 4th Century AD - NOT only the British. The St. George’s Cross is not only associated with the British Monarchy. It’s a universal Christian symbol of courage, faith, honor, perseverance, and strength. We are honoring our ancestors by keeping it. What do you think?

Variety and diversity within the Church is a natural and wonderful thing. It means the Church is truly “Catholic.” What is essential is that the doctrine and faith of the Church is the same. Everyone can find their place on the ark, and believe the same thing.

@MadocCairns Still the same ethos, even if the Overton window has shifted. The “book cage” priests are still the one’s upholding the sanctity of marriage, and the progressive priests…well…we all know.

Seems likely that younger priests tend conservative, but this kind of polling isn't really evidence for it: being "Conservative" in 2026 means something like "opposed to gay marriage"; in the 1950s it meant "We must never allow protestant literature to escape from the Book Cage"
Ryan Burge 📊@ryanburge

Among Catholic priests who were ordained in the late 1960s: 68% describe their theology as progressive. 16% said it was conservative. Among priests ordained in the last few years: 2% describe their theology as progressive. 84% said it was conservative.

I am a convert to Catholicism. I converted in 2010. 🔥Here are a few thoughts for new converts and their ZEAL: 1. Your zeal for the faith is offensive to liberal tolerance—and this is good. 2. You’ll have 1000 opportunities to trade your zeal for being lukewarm, milquetoast—don’t. 3. Zeal is the counter virtue to acedia, and acedia is the sin of our age. 4. Err on being zealous not milquetoast, as not all opposing vices are equidistant from their virtue. 5. Zeal must be tempered by gentleness—let the fire give warmth not burns. 6. Tend the garden you’re given—raging at things outside your ambit causes burnout. 7. Remember that to a room full of timid, lukewarm souls, zeal will always appear brash and overbearing. 8. Be innocent as a dove and shrewd as a serpent—not all that burns the hearts within us must be said at all times. 9. Zeal should be bridled by humility—and the humble know themselves in God, the mirror of the soul. 10. Let your zeal always be seasoned by a love for the glory of God and the salvation of souls. Go and set the world on fire.

I didn’t realize how much Protestants dislike (or even hate) Catholics until I made known my plan to convert. I would have been treated with respect or indifference had I chosen another denomination, like becoming a Baptist, but to cross the Tiber results in real excommunication of the Protestant variety which has nearly no chance of reconciliation.

The bigger impact is cradle Catholics joining the ordinariate. Protestant converts have some of the same sensibilities as former Anglicans (refer to the recent Vatican summary), whereas parish culture changes more dramatically when standard Catholic culture is brought in. Both have benefits in the right amount. I agree with you the patrimony needs to be protected, shared, and proliferated no matter who comes through the door.

Evangelicals have ceded much ground to the Devil in giving up on making holy the material things of the world. Catholics deeply understand the incarnation and how it impacts the entire world around us. God opens us up to his abounding grace through the material realm, and we ought to take back what is rightfully God’s and make it holy once more.
