In 2015 I decided on a whim to check out Tesla's battery swap station that was earning the company 9 figures in California ZEV credits, and found it wasn't real. Instead Tesla was using diesel generators to charge cars. Here's how this changed my life 🧵

Just popping in here to remind you that this platform is garbage, and nobody should use it. From banning critics and throttling links to critical media, to the horrific tolerance of racism and CSAM, being here makes you complicit in all of it.

@FlorasWagon I'm willing to be patient, but I get that not everybody is.

@FlorasWagon I do feel a little like I'm leaving the movie just when it finally gets good, but I've also seen more of this movie than most people and feel OK walking out. Once Bluesky opens and federates it should provide a real alternative to corporate control of social.

@RyanakaFlats Thanks for buying the book! I try to acknowledge that there are no good choices here. My preferred alternative has very few of the convos/news I look for on social, but the fundamentals are sound. We're in a moment of transition, I'm just sharing my values/preferences here

@GreatPaul_Smith I don't, no. Knowing that an alternative exists where I can get a straight chrono feed of only accounts I follow, and where I have almost infinite choices in different kinds of feeds to follow, I can't buy into another Zuck algorithmic labyrinth. Insta is bad enough.

@herrohansbrix If you enjoy fighting the simps, may St George keep and protect you in the good fight. It's the only good reason to be here, IMO. I did my tour of duty, and I don't have that fight in me anymore. Not on social media, anyway.

@Tweetermeyer Many of us are smol accounts and not invite there. Plus we have to fight the good fight the Tesla simps which are mainly here.

I hope this is all just a terrible phase, that Twitter's lenders realize that Musk has lowered the value of this platform to below the ~$12b in debt they're holding, and that they need to step in. If so, I'll see you back here. If not, let's rebuild. The internet is too important
