@virginrosess Ned Stark, who wasn't even raised in the North, really gives the North a reputation that people think applies to the whole region.

don’t tell the asoiaf fandom that northern lords have a history of claiming the right to rape newlywed brides.

@MillennialWoes The only case I'm aware of black to white (rather than Asian/native American etc. to white) is the XO of Battlestar Galactica. 1978 original Vs 2004 remake.

@nikicaga If egg's sisters line is descended from Duncan though the legitimacy disputes would be a mess for trying to claim thiron throne. Or even to keep Tarth

Not to mention she and her father are very likely the legitimate heirs to the Iron Throne after Myrcella lmao (assuming, as is extremely likely, that one of Egg's sisters married Lord Tarth and secretly had a child with Ser Duncan) Ser Hyle Hunt gets least stupid moid award

I get that GRRM had to make Brienne's backstory extra sad, but non-landed knights all over Westeros have to be morons to not desperately try to marry her Oh your wife is kinda ugly? Who cares dude, she's the only heir to a beautiful island the size of the Netherlands

@fiendformojitos Most kings didn't even have a master of whispers. A few characters have really over inflated people's perceptions of how much spy networks are a thing.

It’s literally just Margaery and I don’t think she was taught to built a spy network

@nonregemesse Whenever my mates discussed what we would do in a zombie apocalypse we always said we would team up and head to the tower of London and raid the armoury. Also has Thames access so could fish for food. Would love to see a zombie film go down this route set in Europe

This is a great chapter in the book,. Survivors, including the Queen, hole up in Windsor Castle during the zombie apocalypse and when they run out of bullets they raid the museum at the castle for melee weapons

@peternmitchell @MedievalScholar in World War Z, the British isles reverted back to medieval arms and armour and started living in castles again for this reason

Our lives are more comfortable than medieval kings. They enjoyed a greater degree of opulence but in terms of comfort we have them beat. I’m currently lounging on eight cushions drinking a refrigerated beverage in a warm double glazed room.

@MemoryMedieval I once saw a stupid post that said we live more comfortably than a medieval king because they didn't have ipads or netflix

@UTIUTD @daenielfyre @DANYSPHOENlX ??? Davos literally says he’s cheated on his wife before “I am kind to my wife, but I have known other women.” And Stannis canonically sleeps with Melisandre. Where else would the shadow baby come from

@DANYSPHOENlX I don’t think there’s a man in Westerosi history, outside of Eddard Stark and maybe Jaehaerys I, who was completely faithful to his wife

@Macavit25431185 In the book it's fairly explicit he's not knighted, as his first thought is "I could find another knight to squire for" and doesn't think "I'm a knight now" at all.

It's funny that Ira insists whether Dunk was knighted is still ambiguous, because the only question mark in the book is whether or not that possibility even occurs to the reader. Once the show has straight up shown that there's a chance he wasn't there's clearly 0 way he ever was

Don’t ask me why but one of George R. R. Martin’s best word changes was switching ‘sir’ to ‘ser’

@nonregemesse Tbf there was only one scene of drunk Arlan. The fact we see his rougher edges so prominently made his good parts shining through more memorable. Giving the coin to the villagers, saving Dunc from the goldcloaks, picking up when he fell down. Narratively it worked for me.

Thoughts on A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms now I’ve finished: - Really like the actor who played Dunk. - There’s still too many HBOisms in it. Having Maekar say ‘fuck’ every other sentence was odd and the puerile additions were the show’s lowest points. - Lyonel Baratheon was weird. - Ageing everyone up changed how some of the story felt. Dunk & Egg have a more father-son vibe and Baelor’s death, while still sad, felt less tragic if he’s nearly 50 and not in his 30s. - The show seems to have interpreted the residual political atmosphere post-Blackfyre rebellion as anti-Targaryen in general rather than pro-Blackfyre (the son of two ‘incestuous aliens’) - The trial fight was fun and the sword fighting is much better than in Game of Thrones. - I didn’t like how they made Ser Arlan a drunken lunatic and changed how he took on Dunk as his squire. They also left out some of the positives like how Dunk says he was generous with praise. - Dragging the story out to six episodes was a mistake. It could have been done in 5. The last episode was about two pages of book spread very thin. Overall I liked it. I’m cautiously optimistic about season 2.

@nonregemesse @Cbritinha There was the fence in Fleabottom who wouldn't accept Blackfyre leather, though that could be the risks of owning it rather than a political statement.

@Trey_Explainer Yeah it having the same population as the crown lands is insane. I think iron islanders are just way more likely to be raiders than Crownlanders are to be soldiers so you can't estimate population off that. Downsize iron islands to a tenth.

@Trey_Explainer Saltpans may be in a flood zone making growth difficult, Riverlands must be awful for that with Westerosi seasons. And Gulltown has 50k people, not small! But probably not as significant as others due to it not being on a river and the vales mountains.

Have you notice how rarely people say the wrong thing or stutter in TV or film unless that is a specific flaw of a character? People say the wrong stuff all the time and occasionally stutter or stammer.
