How do you use the electoral space to highlight contradictions if youre not winning? No one cares about candidates getting 5% of the vote.

@UtilityCalc Moronic take. Parenti was namely critical of NATO involvement and the misrepresentations of attacking Slobodan's regime. It was never about him being a war criminal, it was about Yugoslavia having robust Human Services and 75% state ownership of industry.

Parenti's steadfast defense of Milosevic was morally repugnant and it is always downplayed He and his work are wildly overrated

@thucygga_please @KraushTakes I think its because of the numbers of people that can be reached by going through the dem primary system as opposed to outside of it. i believe in principle that agitational campaigns can work, but just not outside of democratic primaries currently

@UtilityCalc @KraushTakes It should also be said that Sanders didn’t win either of the times he ran. Didn’t even come close actually, though he outperformed expectations especially the first time. Yet he still revived the socialist movement.

@thucygga_please @KraushTakes the lead up the 1912 race was also the peak of the SPA after that membership rapidly dropped off. the lead up to the race agitated and the 6 percent of the vote result most certainly demoralized many american socialists on top of the repression and splits

@BourgeoisieH8er @KraushTakes they generally have more constituents than there are dsa members nationally you can do political education, labor organizing, agitation, etc all while having a large electoral project

@BourgeoisieH8er @KraushTakes being able to control electeds and hold them accountable is a matter of power, not rules or ideology. dsa is too small and holds too little leverage to truly make maximalist demands of elected officials especially federal ones

DSA members should not be as hesitant to defend the merits of engaging in electoral politics from attacks to our left It's clearly working and realignment is clearly happening before our eyes

@posadasherself @OliverALarkin the maximalist demand for obama was the public option in the ACA which was then negotiated down to a lesser version of the bill that Obama and the democrats were still willing to enact as policy because it met their minimum threshold

@posadasherself @OliverALarkin i promise you that when he is in congress and there is a bill on the floor for restricting a military operation or shrinking it, his minimalist demand is not abolishing it all or he wont vote on it he will vocally support things that get us closer to that long term goal

@posadasherself if you think replacing the US constitution and abolishing the military are minimalist demands there is no point in engaging with you because you are not a serious political agent with an articulatable plan to win and get to the things you want

@UtilityCalc you don't even know what those terms mean. I specifically listed only minimum demands, maximalist demands would be the abolition of class society

@posadasherself you are referring to steps x,y and z but before that you have to actually go through A to W

@posadasherself also declaring those insanely maximalist socialist demands that are extremely long term as minimum requirements for a party realignment to happen is silly
