Critically endangered #Hicatee are incredible #turtles. The last member of their family, they're strictly aquatic, grow to over 20kg, have enormous webbed feet, & are herbivorous. Males (like this 10kg individual) have beautiful yellow heads. They are truly unique. #Conservation

Here's a short video of 1 of our male #Hicatee swimming away after being marked and measured (they're much faster than me). Note the huge webbed feet, yellow head, and massive tail. It would be tragic to lose such incredible #turtles #SaveTheHicatee #conservation @TurtleSurvival

When threatened, young #Hicatee have the adorable habit of covering their face with their front feet. "If I can't see him, he can't see me." Also, note the heavily serrated beak for shredding vegetation. #Turtles #Conservation #Research #Reptiles #SaveTheHicatee
