I just had a very disturbing Good Friday encounter with an ICE agent at the airport As I was going through security, an ICE agent asked me for my ID. I told him this isn’t Soviet Russia and that the only citizenship papers I planned to show him were the Declaration of Independence “Sir, I’m just asking for ID, not proof of citizenship,” he said. “Today is the anniversary of Jesus’s resurrection,” I replied. “He was an American. Would you have asked to see his papers too? Would the scars on his hands not have been enough for you?” He was stunned silent. I strode past him without showing my ID and went through the metal detector I received a standing ovation

@ProV1Smile @asymmetricinfo Excluding drinkers with a problem, the “well, shit” beer for life’s truly difficult moments of adulting deserves recognition. Just had one while composing a eulogy a week ago.

@mattyglesias He put in the awful bike lanes. Also, once saw the dude straight up skip out on giving a eulogy. By happenstance, I also knew one of his early mentors. Funeral was going long, but he left early and didn’t deliver his remarks. Always said I’d never forger it.

@wmataGM Alright, it is time to start sending your deputies to other troubled agencies in the area (I.e. DC Water). I’ve been skeptical, even annoyed by some of your online fans, but now convinced we need a “Clarke Tree” for DMV agencies like the “Saban Tree” for football coaches.

- RTO was a bump but Metro has lead county for 2+ yrs. - Hybrid is reality, so all days/week might not be same but T,W,Th are getting very busy. M-F has picked up a lot, weekends strong. - we need people to pay fares to support long term good service - must fund capital cliff

Interesting read. Agee that safe, frequent & reliable service drive ridership. A few thoughts: - Jan 26’ big storm impacts, March 26’ will be better comp. - TOD is accelerating & I’m optimistic about that on several fronts. - bus being impacted by regional economy - cont 👇

@CMBrookePinto Everything in the District involves leadership “working with” or “remaining committed to” fixing problems, but never, you know, actually fixing anything.

@asymmetricinfo This story is so odd because no one could imagine a less suitable establishment for this kind of treatment. Lived in nearby in LeDroit Park for years. Place wasn’t my cup of tea, but clearly added value/community pillar. And they close early!

When I moved into next-door Eckington Big Bear was the only place within walking distance where you could sit down and eat, and it was so foundational to the neighborhood’s appeal that real estate ads in Bloomingdale’s and Eckington literally listed how far they were from BBC.
Commissioner Joe Bishop-Henchman | Eckington@joe5f6

I was shocked today at an oversight hearing when an ANC 5E commissioner said she did not like @bigbearcafe and urged that the ABCA Board take action against them. If she succeeds in driving you out of Bloomingdale, @bigbearcafe , we would love to have you in Eckington!

@swlittauer @mattyglesias I once had to genuinely inquire with the District if I needed to replace my door to match the “historic character” of my neighborhood before or after it burned in the riots.

@mattyglesias Bingo. And as an ANC commissioner in a historic district, we also have to get approval from the Historic Preservation Review Board (HPRB), which is far more contentious in my experience.

@AlexKomaDC I understand big storm, shit happens, our government is inept at basic services and I chose to live here, etc etc, but them pretending all is well is infuriating. Our alley was cleared early, but still no trash pickup for more than 3 weeks.

This is very funny for the agency to say, considering what I've heard/seen throughout the city. Consider my block in Shaw, which only just had its alley cleared and is approaching 3 weeks without pickup. Here's what the agency said when I put in a 311 request lol

Plenty of complaints of missed trash collections post-storm. @DCDPW tells me crews are back to "normal collections schedule and getting to locations that might have been missed due to icy conditions." Keep bins out, and put in 311 request if collection is at least two days late.

@Super70sSports My daughter’s 3rd grade basketball team lost yesterday 32-6. On the outside, “good job, honey! You guys still played hard. Just wasn’t your day. It happens.” On the inside, this!

Trash, recycling, and food waste collections have resumed. If your trash or recycling is not collected on your scheduled day, please leave your bins out, as missed collections will be prioritized the following day. If materials have not been collected within two days, residents should report the issue to 311.

@conor64 Along the same lines, “Let’s order 2-3 large $7.99 Dominos pizzas and see how many meals we get out of it.” Solid pizza for you for a dinner and lunch leftovers and potential for many kids meals. Crazy outliers who lack common sense aren’t a trend

Lots of folks saying *cooking isn't that hard* but what strikes me is how much more expensive this is than other non-cooking options, like using Instacart to have roast chicken from Costco delivered, or doing one of the prepared meal just-heat-it-up delivery services

One of the best experiences you can have is to read coverage of things about which you're intimately familiar. It's rare that there aren't mistakes or misinterpretations. That doesn't mean it's purposeful or ill-intended. It means people make mistakes. A lot of them. It changes the way you consume information.

Bill Murray: When I read what Woodward wrote about my friend Belushi, I knew they framed Nixon. MURRAY: "If this is what he writes about my friend that I've known for half of my adult life, which is completely inaccurate, what the hell could they have done to Nixon?" ROGAN: "Once you see propaganda or bullshit from someone that you know and you see a distorted perception, it really opens your eyes to the fact that a lot of the things you read are horseshit."

@mattyglesias Clearly the pandemic effect, no? After everyone was confined in some way, shape, or form, dads started doing more with kids and housework. This continued beyond pandemic because all the duties became clearer and more evenly sorted. Perhaps rose tinted, but seems logical.

@PrestonCooper93 How does the data come out for NP degrees on an annual basis? I understand vast majority take out less than $100K in aggregate, but how many take out more than $20K annually? What about PAs, PTs, and OTs?

Classifying advanced nursing degrees as standard rather than professional is not a judgement on the profession’s inherent worth. Rather, the Department’s classification of nursing is a practical decision to ensure that nurses avoid excessive student debt burdens.
