1/ Denmark was reportedly preparing for full-scale war with the US over Greenland in January, with military support from France, Germany, and Nordic nations. Elite troops and F-35 jets with live ammunition were sent, and runways were to be blown up to prevent an invasion. ⬇️

Just spoke to @POTUS about our European allies’ unwillingness to provide assets to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning, which benefits Europe far more than America. I have never heard him so angry in my life. I share that anger given what’s at stake. The arrogance of our allies to suggest that Iran with a nuclear weapon is of little concern and that military action to stop the ayatollah from acquiring a nuclear bomb is our problem not theirs is beyond offensive. The European approach to containing the ayatollah’s nuclear ambitions have proven to be a miserable failure. The repercussions of providing little assistance to keep the Strait of Hormuz functioning are going to be wide and deep for Europe and America. I consider myself very forward-leaning on supporting alliances, however at a time of real testing like this, it makes me second guess the value of these alliances. I am certain I am not the only senator who feels this way.

Instead of fighting over a 21-mile-wide bottleneck forever, we cut a new channel through friendly territory. A dozen thermonuclear detonations and you’ve got a waterway wider than the Panama Canal, deeper than the Suez, and safe from Iranian attacks. chinatalk.media/p/its-time

Yesterday was a tragic day for America and our Air Force. I flew the KC-135 for just two years at the start of my Air Force career, but this one still hits close to home. Keep our military in your prayers. (Link to full video in reply)

Here is the wonderfully-named HMS Spanker, which is the sort of vessel that should be making Godspeed to the Eastern Mediterranean. I cannot help feeling some of our ship's names, apart from Dragon, lack aggression.

He111 of KG55 has been attacked by a RAF Spitfire. The bomber is badly damaged, but a pair of Me109s of JG26 have come to the rescue.

Good job the Nazis didn't invent V2's until much later in the war or else it would have been a very different story! Who could have scripted the outcome of the Battle of Britain. What a totally epic, unheard of achievement. Monumental. But it was our Navy that protected the convoys across the Atlantic, just as we need to protect the tankers today.

Not my conclusion, Ian, its yours! You said: "Other than being a prestige target, what can the aircraft carrier Prince of Wales bring that can’t be better provided by a purpose built military airfield in that region? 🤦🏼‍♂️As for the destroyer, it won’t be a critical military asset, also thanks to RAF Akrotiri." So, using that logic, the UK, with its multiple purpose built airfields, is adequately covered by the Air Force so no carrier is required to defend us within its fighter range. You even seem to be saying even a destroyer is not a "critical asset" for the same reason. Of course, what all that ignores is all our enemies know the location of our airfields, so as in WW2, they would try to take them out, in effect "ungrounding" our air force thus rendering it redundant as it could not be refueled, maintained or relieved. In reality, the Navy, on declaration of hostilities would be dispersed and strategically placed to cover the loss of our airfields. So, my conclusion is that the Navy is needed to sail to the Middle East to cover the bases, such as Akrotiri, should they be attacked and rendered useless. QED.
