A good general - but did his failure to engage at either Ligny or Quatre Bras on 16 June 1815 cost Napoleon the Waterloo campaign?

On this day in 1844 Jean-Baptiste Drouet, Comte d'Erlon died. d'Erlon served with distinction throughout the Napoleonic Wars, but is perhaps best remembered for his actions during the Waterloo campaign.

#OTD January 24, 1798 – On this day in 1798, Napoleon didn’t just conquer a city—he toppled the Pope’s government as his forces entered Rome. French troops under General Berthier entered Rome, effectively ending Papal temporal rule. Acting under orders from Napoleon, Berthier proclaimed the Roman Republic, and Pope Pius VI was taken into captivity soon after. #rome

@theknightirish @WaterlooA I was reading an Osprey book about the Portuguese army. Was reading about William Warre a Portuguese/British officer. Part of the Warre’s Port family. Realised I was drinking from a bottle or Warre’s port called Warrior named after his horse.
