I honestly feel like the storytelling about Korra was good. But then again, I don't like the way korra uses the Avatar state in combats that doesn't require it at all.
Aang used it against FireLord Ozai because it was his last defense mechanism. But Korra should never had used it against Kuvira because she was better than Kuvira combat-wise.
Yes! by far, Korra is a better brutal fighter than kuvira. I believe she could have taken Kuvira out without using the Avatar state. And that's exactly what she did at the final battle against kuvira. Korra didn't use the Avatar state and beat Kuvira hands-down.
The Avatar state should be the Last resort not something you use anyhow.

Amon never used bloodbending.
He found a forgotten spirit older than the Avatar.
When he touched someone’s forehead, he wasn’t blocking chi.
He was letting that spirit judge their soul.
If their spirit craved power, it consumed their bending.
Amon didn’t remove bending.
He sentenced it.

Aang fought Ty Lee the originator of chi blocking and she couldn’t touch him once.
Even his grandson Meelo a 5 years old kid,beat chi blockers very easily with just air bending but you somehow think Aang that had all 4 elements will lose because Korra lost.

Amon used an advanced specialized form of bloodbending to permanently remove bending by severing a person's connection to their chi.
By holding a bender's neck and placing his thumb on their forehead, he utilized his psychic bloodbending to disrupt the chi flow,blocking the meridians that allow a bender to channel their element permanently.
