Today we mourn the loss of Katherine Tamminen, a pillar of the SCAPPS community. Katherine was an amazing researcher and President, but more importantly, a dear colleague and friend. Our sympathies go out to all those whose lives were touched by Katherine.

It is time to start ramping up for SCAPPS 2026!! Lots more to be added to the website (scapps.org/conference/), but for now, the graphic below gives a good overview.

Dr. Joseph Baker (University of Toronto) shared a thought-provoking talk for the Carron lecture titled, “Nature, nurture, noise and nonsense: Unlocking the puzzle of exceptional achievement”. His research encourages us to think deeply about how we view athlete development.

Dr. Brian Maraj (University of Alberta) delivered a warm and heartfelt talk for this year’s Wilberg lecture. His talk was titled, “There’s no place like home”. Lots of fun pictures and SCAPPS stories shared!

Happening now: the Multidisciplinary Keynote featuring Sarah-Lynne Knockwood. Sarah-Lynne, a Mi’kmaq woman from Sipekne’katik First Nation and Canadian taekwondo athlete, has dedicated over 20 years to advancing Indigenous sport and community.

Racing into the last day of SCAPPS like🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Drs. Sebastian Harenberg and Matt Vierimaa led a “fun run” early this morning. First round of sessions start at 8:30 am!

What an awesome turnout for our first BIPOC faculty and student meetup! Thanks Drs. Jonathan Hood and Leah Ferguson for organizing this event.

What a privilege to learn from Dr. Maria Kavussanu (University of Birmingham) in this afternoon’s SEP Keynote. Her talk focused on findings from her work around morality in sport.

Congratulations to Dr. Kent Kowalski (University of Saskatchewan) for being this year’s recipient of the Brawley and Elliott Award for Excellence in Supervision and Mentorship 👏
