Who remembers this old FCMB Ad featuring the song “Abasi Mi Ayaya” (or “Ayaiyah”)? A classic Afro-soul and gospel track by Nigerian multi-instrumentalist and singer-songwriter Fadabasi. The title is in the Ibibio/Efik language of Akwa Ibom State and translates roughly to “My God is Beautiful” or “My God is Awesome. Were you there?

Ten years ago today, I sat down at my office and took a stock of my life. I didn’t like the direction my life was going Poverty had a chokehold on me I began to fret, because I was just a few years away from turning forty and all the potentials I had shown since childhood had refused to bear fruit in my adulthood I had given birth to my children in poverty They were attending the cheapest school I could find I had a job that could best be described as that of a glorified messenger I had a degree that had not brought me any profit My life was a hard and unpleasant one Added to that I developed a mysterious illness and the doctors told me I had six months to live I was a pastor, a born again Christian and I was living that “It shall get better in the by and by” life I turned to the Lord and I had a conversation with him When Lord will Jacob become Israel? When Lord will potential turn to manifestation? The Lord said “I told you your destiny in 2007, you chose to live like others and not as I have ordained you to live. Hence, this battered life There is a space for you, preserved for you in destiny, if you will embrace it. I said “I am ready Lord, what do I do?” He told me simple things… Read that Bible daily for two hours Pray in the Spirit daily for two hours Start praying for people and nations as an intercessor Stop complaining and start appropriating my blessings to your destiny I obeyed. Today is the ten years anniversary of my freedom from rebellion I embraced obedience and the course of my life changed forever It is not too late to do the same. There is a destiny for you in Christ, it is not difficult to fulfil but you must be willing to trust and obey. Happy Birthday, GSW!

Today is my birthday, and while I’m grateful to see another year, I’m choosing to approach it a little differently this time. Instead of gifts, I’m hoping to turn this moment into something more meaningful. 🙏 My mum was diagnosed with Grade 2 breast cancer, and she’s currently fighting the hardest battle of her life. She’s been incredibly strong and has been responding well to her chemotherapy and blood work so far. We’ve been going through treatment every three weeks, holding on to hope each step of the way. We were really hopeful that she would be cleared for surgery this April, but unfortunately, her radiologist and oncologists have said that the lump hasn’t shrunk enough yet for surgery. There’s now a possibility she may have to undergo a mastectomy. Because of this, her treatment has been extended, and her chemo dosage has been adjusted to help shrink the lump further so she can eventually qualify for surgery. As we get closer to that stage, the financial strain has become heavier than we expected. So this year, the only thing I’m wishing for on my birthday is to see my mum get the treatment she needs. If you were thinking of getting me a gift, I would truly appreciate it if you could consider putting that towards her care instead. No amount is too small, and even if you’re unable to give, simply sharing this message would mean so much to us. I know she doesn’t want me to do this, but I just want to ease the burden a little and stand by her in every way I can. If you’ve ever loved your mum, you’ll understand why this means everything to me. Thank you so much for your kindness, support, and prayers. ❤️ Account details (Access Bank): 12214150010

Recently, a lady I had history with reached out to me and asked why I blocked her on social media. I explained honestly… and then I told her I would be blocking her number too. The moment she replied, I blocked her and deleted her number immediately. Not because I hate her. Not because I’m proud. But because I know myself… and I know what God has delivered me from. If I entertained that conversation, if I kept it “normal,” I would slowly find myself going back to where I came from. And it took me too long to be free from immorality to play with that fire again. This time, I understand something deeper: I have a destiny to protect. I am no longer overconfident in myself thinking “nothing will happen.” That kind of mindset is dangerous. I know a born-again guy who used to boast about his self-control. He would boldly say he could stay in the same room with a woman, even sleep on the same bed, and nothing would happen. He even mocked others, saying they had “spoiled minds.” It wasn’t long… he impregnated a lady. That’s how subtle overconfidence is. The moment you think you are above falling, you are already at risk. The Bible says in 1 Corinthians 10:12, “Let him who thinks he stands take heed lest he fall.” When it comes to sexual purity, Scripture never told us to prove strength… it told us to run. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says, “Flee sexual immorality.” Not manage it. Not explain it. Not negotiate with it. Flee. Joseph didn’t stay to prove a point when he was tempted. Genesis 39:12 says he left his garment and ran. Sometimes, the real victory is in walking away fast. --- Let me say something many people don’t like to hear: No one just “falls” into sin instantly. It is a process. A conversation… A memory… A moment of curiosity… A thought entertained too long… Then before you realize it, you are already deep in it. That’s why Proverbs 4:23 says, “Guard your heart with all diligence, for out of it flow the issues of life.” If the heart is not guarded, the life will not stand. Even David didn’t fall in one day. In 2 Samuel 11, it started with being in the wrong place… looking at the wrong thing… entertaining the wrong desire… and then acting on it. Sin grows in stages. So wisdom says: cut it early. --- Another truth I’ve learned: Don’t ever say, “I can never do that.” Whether it is immorality, pornography, or masturbation… don’t speak from pride. Instead, speak from humility and dependence on God. Because as long as you are alive, you must stay watchful. Jesus Himself taught us to pray in Matthew 6:13, “Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.” That means there are places you are not designed to handle without consequences. So we don’t just pray for strength in temptation… We pray for grace not to be exposed to it. --- And let’s be honest: People struggling with things like masturbation didn’t just wake up there. It started somewhere. That’s why we don’t judge. We stay humble. Galatians 6:1 says, “…considering yourself lest you also be tempted.” If not for God’s grace, anyone can fall. --- This journey is not about acting strong. It is about staying submitted. It is about setting boundaries. It is about cutting off what needs to be cut off. It is about choosing God daily, even when it is uncomfortable. 2 Timothy 2:22 says, “Flee youthful lusts; but pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace…” You don’t just run away from sin… You run toward God. --- At the end of the day, some doors you close not because you hate people… But because you love your future. Some connections you cut not because you are proud… But because you are serious about your walk with God. --- Stay humble. Stay watchful. Stay dependent on God. Because the goal is not just to start well… It is to finish well. 1 Corinthians 9:27 says, “I discipline my body and bring it into subjection…” May God give us the wisdom to flee. May He give us the grace to stand.

THE PROPHET THAT RAISED 22 PEOPLE FROM DEAD: Prophet Daniel Orekoya. One of the Prophet whom God used to ignite the Oke-Bola, Ibadan revival in 1930 is Prophet Daniel Orekoya ,an Ijebu man. He was a sexton under the defunct Faith Tabernacle group at Idi-Oro, Lagos. Orekoya was born in Ijebu Imusin, Ogun State. The exact date of his birth could not be ascertained but he was already a teenager when locust first ravaged Yorubaland. That was around 1912. Orekoya was born at a time when infant mortality was rife. He was not expected to survive. But he did survive. Orekoya’s parents had problem with children. Not that they don’t give birth but most of their children did not survive ,obviously the towns people did not expect him (Orekoya) to amount to anything. They did not expect him to survive. He was Short-statured, impaired in one eye. He was not the child any parent will invest a lot of expectation on. But the boy (Daniel Orekoya) who was given no chance to live; chose to embrace God in the course of time. He was a regular face in the Anglican Church of his town and was said to have been baptized by one Rev I. B. Ogunmefun, a native of Abeokuta who served in Ijebuland for over 40 years. With time, Orekoya began to be a seeker after God. But he soon noticed the disparity between what he read in the Bible and what was obtained in real life. That is what pushed him to devote his life to prayers and study of God’s word. It was in the course of seeking the face of God that he got instruction from the Holy Spirit to move to Lagos. In Lagos he joined the Faith Tabernacle Church while also learning sewing. He worked as a tailor for six months. He then opted out of the trade to render full service to God in Faith Tabernacle. In Faith Tabernacle Orekoya gave himself to more prayer and fasting. It was during one of the days of his fellowship with God that he had an angelic visitation where a long message was delivered to the church. He then sought financial assistance to travel to branches of the church to deliver the message. But the church declined to offer him help because of some flimsy excuses because he could only read the Bible and not any other book. He was partially impaired in one eye. Though he was aged, his physical stature was like that of a 12-year old.” But that would not deter Orekoya who looked for money from other sources and proceeded to Ilesha when he heard of the great work God was using the famed Ayo Babalola to do. By then Babalola had just been introduced as a new prophet in Faith Tabernacle. Babalola had also been praying that God would raise more prophets. Orekoya was one of those who caught the vision from Prophet J. A. Babalola at Oke Ooye, Ilesha. When Orekoya got to Ilesha it did not take long for Babalola to spot him in the crowd. He thus became an assistant. Having spent some time with the Prophet Babalola, he demanded for Babalola’s prayer so that he too might be empowered for the work. After this, Babalola left him at Ilesha and went to Efon Alaaye. He went back proclaiming the power of God and the use of water for healing diseases. There was mighty move of God in Ilesha that year 1930. But then, Orekoya took off from there to return to Lagos after series of revival meetings during which God used him mightily along with Babalola. While on the journey back home, those who heard of the mighty Ilesha revival and who had seen him play a major role in that revival approached him for prayers on the way. His destination was Lagos. But by the time Orekoya got to Ibadan, he could not move further. Immediately God started to perform miracles and healings. He had hardly settled down to eat at the residence of his host that the Lord ministered to him that three women were coming to see him. Those women came. But not long, the number increased. Before long a sea of human heads had surrounded him. They brought one dead woman with pregnancy. The family of the dead woman could not afford to pay 👇

In 1953, Guinea’s 🇬🇳 Camara Laye published The African Child (Le Infant Noir), a classic coming of age story in African literature. It is a semi autobiographical novel from Laye's perspective, following a young boy's childhood in a traditional West African setting and his journey into education and cultural identity. It was praised by critics for its simple language and vivid memory based storytelling. Laye wrote with deep nostalgia, capturing family life, culture and identity, and early education in French West Africa. His work became one of the first African novels many students encountered in school. I read it in my sophomore year in uni. His story still opens the door to African literature for many readers, especially lovers of the bildungsroman genre. I particularly enjoyed this novel because it was a fictional insight into Francophone West Africa. What was your favorite memory of the book? #AfroLit
