I disagree, Ian Flynn was cooking. Sonic and Amy having a crush dynamic is an iconic framework. But as someone who's trying to write a comic, where IDEALLY you want characters to progress, I think it would make sense for their relationship to develop in some way. Whether it ends or happens, whatever the writer chooses. I think the comparison you made is weak because you're comparing a simple cartoon that hasn't had 35 years worth of lore. And Sonic as of now is being written as a story to be taken seriously, unlike looney toons. Also roadrunner vs coyote dynamic is hero vs villain dynamic that would otherwise end the franchise/entire Sonic story. A change in dynamic between Sonic and Amy will not end the story and can still continue to develop and change long term.
