@profLisaE I start with local buy nothing Facebook groups, then move to local thrift stores (generally not goodwill, as they throw away a LOT). If it’s particularly nice and I’m feeling motivated I’ll sell on Poshmark, but my go to is to just give it to someone who needs it.

@ShreyastaS @AcademicChatter I made >$75k/year as a STEM postdoc in the US. In less than 18 months I saved enough to purchase a home. Don’t be fooled into thinking being in poverty with a PhD is acceptable. There are other options.

@AcademicChatter It's a similar situation for everyone in STEM. But trust me it's very rewarding. Don't burden yourself with savings. Focus on STEM career first and when you have some time in the weekend go for some part-time job. Keep sharing your thoughts & look for online gigs like freelancing

@spleonard1 PNNL post doc salaries are >$75k, which is actually even better pay adjusted for COL.

@Kris_Koskela Why would the owners care about the credit score of the buyers? If a buyer is pre approved for a loan, the credit score does not impact the seller in any way. (Credit scores are pretty racist though 😬😬😬)

Got a call back about a house Allie and I applied to and the owners is a stickler for credit and was told we had the best credit out of 40 groups of applicants lmao LETS GOOO
