This is so sad, I knew him personally and took classes from him and the "Golden Greek" in Texas. both legends. One left earlier in life. Chuck scared the reaper away many times.

agree, worm always tightened with tongs after chainhand slipped the chain off.

@arcing69 @BrianRoemmele Worked the monkey board as well. Never fell. Figured the rope wasn’t to save me but to prevent them from picking up pieces if I did fall. Wondered why they never used clamps. Driller I worked for always made them do that chain not enough.

I did this for a year out of high school, made the 2 mile club, the H2S club and various other honors including falling from the monkey board while tripping in the hole. Only real roughnecks will understand that. This guy is doing the job that normally 3 people would do, although in a pinch 2 can do it quickly.
