There's been no era of criticism that's been kinder and gentler to movies than this current one. Stans' heads would explode if they read reviews from the 1970s. Heck, maybe anything pre-2010 too.

people are understandably reluctant to outright say “Michael Jackson’s music will live longer and means more than those kids’ pain” but that’s the subtext of every conversation about him and it would probably save everyone a lot of agita to just get it out in the open

@PetreRaleigh Barely anyone watches linear tv anymore, but even if you wanted to, the basic cable schedule is almost constantly filled with MCU/harry potter/etc. franchise marathons rather than what we'd remember as the genre of the Basic Cable Movie

@PetreRaleigh Trend across culture in general, you see this with music as well. There's unprecedented frictionless access to almost anything you'd ever want, but the vast majority of people don't actually take advantage of that and get no "forced" exposure to things that challenge them

Always reluctant to do a generational weigh-in but my view tends to be 1) there are more young people with serious movie knowledge now than there have ever been 2) young people who don't specifically care about movies know fewer of them than they ever have

@nikicaga This is plainly false. Municipal elections/state leg districts in big cities have been overwhelmingly the places that socialists have been successful in the last decade. Most (wisely) are not contesting for the mayor's office/congress, that doesn't mean they're not winning

Like sorry, somewhere between .16 and .48 is a pretty big margin of error! Seems obvious to me that if it's that close it should work like baserunning and defer to the original call on the play
