One of the least systematically documented aspects of Indian history is the world of the Princely States. At the time of Independence, nearly 40% of the territory of the Indian subcontinent and almost one-fourth of its population lived under princely rule. If we focus on present Indian boundaries, nearly half (48%) of India was under the control of the 560 odd  Large, small and tiny princely states, estates, and Jagirs.  While people know large states like Hyderabad, Jammu and Kashmir, Mysore, and Gwalior, there were hundreds of tiny states- some less than 1 sq mile!. We are happy to share what is perhaps the first comprehensive digitized database of 594 princely states, estates, and jagirs of India based on the Memoranda on Indian States (1939). lnkd.in/g4pQRQbS @indiastatestory

Forest fire : Armed Forces. Bridge collapse : Armed Forces. Exam paper leak : Armed Forces. At some point, serious questions need to be asked about the competence and accountability of civilian institutions. If every crisis ultimately needs military intervention, then perhaps mandatory national service should be part of the conversation.

Export of the first IND-made Cryogenic/LNG Marine Loading Arm. Built at the Asangaon facility, Woodfield is among IND's smart acquisitions. Complex LNG LA is a major addition to LNG infra ecosystem; cuts EU imports & decently cheaper. First unit shipped to a Gulf O&G major; 2nd scheduled for testing. Woodfield has a ₹500 cr capex to make IND a global cryo export hub.

Indian scientists just made history. Researchers from IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru just pulled off something impossible. They've created the world's "first carbon-free ferrocene". This means we can finally build the next generation of incredibly durable tech. Let me explain. See, ferrocene is this wild organometallic molecule - where an iron atom is perfectly sandwiched between two carbon rings. But it’s insanely stable. Which is why it is already used in rocket fuels, car gasoline additives, long-life batteries, and even cancer medicines. And for the last 75 years, everyone thought it was impossible to build the same stable structure without using carbon. But this team of Indian scientists proved everyone wrong. They created the same perfect sandwich structure - by swapping iron for osmium and carbon rings for boron rings. And what they got was the world's first carbon-free ferrocene - which is so much stronger than the carbon bonds. By doing so - they've opened up a whole new era of chemistry. And we have no idea how many amazing things we might discover. But to think all of this started in India is truly amazing. Kudos to everyone on this team: Sundargopal Ghosh, Stutee Mohapatra, Suvam Saha, Urvashi Gupta, Deepak Patel - from IIT Madras, Gaurav Joshi and Eluvathingal D. Jemmis - from IISc Bengaluru.

Researchers from IIT Madras and IISc Bengaluru have solved a chemistry puzzle that remained unanswered for over 70 years. As reported in The Indian Express, the team led by Prof. Sundargopal Ghosh and Stutee Mohapatra from the Department of Chemistry, IIT Madras, along with Prof. Eluvathingal Jemmis from IISc Bengaluru, has synthesised a carbon-free molecule that mimics the iconic ‘sandwich’ structure of ferrocene. Using osmium and boron-based rings instead of carbon, the breakthrough marks the first stable carbon-free version of the molecule — something scientists worldwide had long attempted to achieve. Published in the prestigious journal Science (science.org/doi/10.1126/sc…), the discovery could open new pathways for designing advanced materials with unique chemical and structural properties. Lodha Foundation has launched the Lodha Theoretical Physics Institute (LTPI) in Mumbai, establishing India's first fully privately funded Theoretical Physics Research Institute. Directed by Wolf Prize recipient Prof. Jainendra K. Jain, the institute is designed to drive long-term fundamental research and international scientific collaboration. Moving immediately into operations, LTPI is hosting the 3-day 10th international meeting on Emergent Phenomena in Quantum Hall Systems (EPQHS-10). This inaugural workshop gathers global experts to chart future directions in physics and features a public lecture by Nobel laureate Klaus Von Klitzing. @Jain_Physics

@LaMotheLeVayer @NigelBiggar @SumitSSandal You idiot that is route length not track length. Post independence India replaced entire tracks from narrow gauge left by the Brits to broad gauge, increased route length, some tracks were doubled or tripled, electrified 100%. Indian railway isn't anything that you left it as.

70% of route coverage in India was built by the British; the Indians have added only 30%. Sounds like an astonishing achievement. If the trains weren't built for the benefit of Indians, why has there not been an increase in coverage by orders of magnitude since independence? If the British had not built the foundations to begin with, I doubt India would even have a railway system.

Not being a communist @SumitSSandal I have no objection to British investors profiting from their investments, nor to Indian producers and traders profiting from faster railway communications. Nor do I object to Indian peasants being saved from famine by the swifter distribution of food aid. Railways played a major part in overcoming the tendency of food shortages to develop into famine.
Sumit Singh Sandal@SumitSSandal

@CoopieBastards @ivor_bacon @Dev207i @NigelBiggar @RoyHistory1 @OurJeeBee The trains weren't made for the benefit of Indians - but to ship goods quicker to ports, and increase profits for shareholders in the UK. Indians could only travel in 3rd class. When Indians began manufacturing their own trains, the colonial authority outlawed production.

Indian officials have spent a lot of time and effort on “appraising” Fitzpatrick on Pakistan and other Indian concerns, while he only postures and lectures Indian officials on Ru oil. No surprises that he’s working with the SFJ openly, or that India wouldn’t raise any objections.

Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, who visited India in September and was given audience with several high level officials and ministers, recently collaborated with Sicks for Justice (SFJ) on a House Resolution, per his website.

🚨C2i Semiconductors tapes out AI server power chip, eyes global data centre supply chain Indian semiconductor startup C2i Semiconductors has taped out its first smart power-stage chip for AI servers, as it looks to enter the global market for high-performance power management components used in data centres. In semiconductor design, "tape-out" is the final phase where the blueprint of a chip is completed and sent to the manufacturing facility (the fab) for production. The Bengaluru-based startup is building "smart power stage" chips — components that regulate (more specifically, reduce) and convert electricity before it reaches high-performance GPUs and CPUs inside AI servers. Backed by a recent $16.7 million funding round led by Peak XV Partners, C2i is targeting a market currently dominated by large US, Japanese and European semiconductor firms By @AihikS moneycontrol.com/news/business/…
