The point of both were they were being blinded by their own hatred to realize they turned into the very people they hated. Both also forced Katara into situations by lying to her with Jet being the only one who actually earned his redemption.

omg yes. wha isn't even the first story where a majority of the characters are extremely young, like. hell, i grew up on naruto. but the way shirahama writes those small moments of the girls being overwhelmed, suddenly hyperaware of how young and vulnerable they are in the grand
