OK, that’s what I’d call a good email from a total stranger.

My son did something amazing today. He got the fake email "We've hacked your computer and spied on you doing bad stuff and browsing bad sites. Send us bitcoin and tell no-one. ". His heart dropped, and his first instinct was to call me and tell me what happened and ask for help. It was obviously fake, and he didn't do anything wrong, but my heart was filled that his first reaction was to call me and to tell me something happened and for me to help. Communicate to your kids, I have emphasized multiple times with my kids that no matter what situation you are in, especially on cyber - let me know and the bad folks don't want a pissed off HackingDave Dad on them and I'm always there for them. They had asked my expected salary before the interview rounds, they agreed to the salary, then after the rounds gave me a lowball & below market rates offer along with many flip flops. I need to regulate my emotions better

It is sad… and sorry if you’ve been on the receiving end of that. I feel like this happens when people view others only as objects to use to get what they want. It can get worse when someone’s in survival mode. It’s interesting how meanness can happen on the other side too when companies ghost candidates after interviews, for example. But if we act mean toward anyone, we’re ultimately hurting ourselves in the long run. Choosing to treat others with dignity regardless of their perceived “utility” is always a choice.

People are unnecessarily mean during the hiring process (and I mean applicants). People who review resumes / do hiring are people too. And literally, if you're mean, do you think you're going to get the job? Gross.
