This installation is a part of Nengudi’s R.S.V.P. series, a body of sculptural works composed of pantyhose filled with sand and stretched across architectural space. Initially developed as Nengudi reflected on the physical transformations of her body following childbirth, the work is defined by tension and elasticity. Early iterations of the series were activated through live performance, with both the artist and her collaborators pulling, knotting, and entangling the nylon forms, treating the sculpture as both object and participant. Through abstraction and materially modest means, the installation articulates layered experiences of embodiment, addressing themes of vulnerability and the assertion of bodily presence within space.
