My eldest brother died tonight. The world no longer has him in it, and I don't know what to do with that, beyond remind myself that I will see him in the Big Country when my days are done, on the other side of the clearing. But oh, I am going to miss him.

My dude, I appreciate you are a very nice educator, but I think it is pretty valid to ask high school students what books are no-gos for readers' advisory. Kids are allowed to hate a book. Anyone is!

@misskubelik One of our creative writing unit projects is making picture book dummies, and at least a couple students found that lightboxing a character who would appear on multiple pages was useful for them.

@misskubelik I did get 'real ones', it's true -- they fell under WI's common school fund as a library resource. I'm fortunate that one good feature of my creation space is a bank of outlets to plug in. As for uses: photo tracery and lettering for projects, other art options.

Been thinking of getting this $5 light pad for my (going to be entirely redesigned this year) artist's corner but I'm not sure if they'd use it/how I'd get it plugged in. Hard to resist, though. Other school librarians what do you think?

Gotta love how snobbish literacy clickbait tweet suggests that "read Moby-Dick, hate it, be competent at reading" or "lower yourself to love Wimpy Kid, be obviously intellectually inferior" are the either-or choices. Readers can look like either, both, or something else.

@LaurelSnyder My weirdest junior high social studies assignment involved my entire grade learning this song and bellowing it at the top of our lungs as a part of a social experiment that somehow demonstrated courtly love, and I still recall all the words as a result.

Spouse has been endoscopied and biopsied and forced to a short term liquid diet and some supervision from me, and we made it home safe despite April Snowmageddon.

It's snowing buckets and my spouse is in the ER and the rest of my week is full of stress and bad. I hate this.
