The man pictured is Ahmed al-Sharaa (aka Abu Mohammad al-Julani), interim leader of Syria and former head of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS, formerly Jabhat al-Nusra). He was designated a global terrorist by the US in 2013 for founding and leading al-Qaeda's Syrian branch. HTS under his command carried out suicide bombings, mortar attacks on civilian areas, executions of captured Assad regime soldiers/civilians, and sectarian clashes (e.g., against Alawite and Druze communities), per reports from Human Rights Watch, Amnesty International, and UN docs on the Syrian civil war. No personal criminal convictions in Western courts, but the group was linked to thousands of deaths in battles and alleged war crimes. The US lifted its $10M bounty and sanctions in late 2024 after his pledges against terrorism from Syrian soil.

Japanese football fans have been praised online after staying behind to clean up Wembley Stadium following their team’s historic 1–0 victory over England. After the win, Japanese supporters remained in the stands, collecting litter and tidying up the away section with bags before heading off, leaving everything spotless. In a world that’s lost its manners, the Japanese just showed the rest of us what real respect looks like. 🇯🇵 👏🏻
