@nylabby97 The question at hand is usually the response to BA answering the question with pride. They take the pride as a challenge. And we’re well within our right to call out insincere intentions. But agree to disagree.

@devanttay That’s the problem. You want to take offense so quickly, you assume it’s asked in bad faith. Give them your answer as neutral as you can then see their response. I get asked that all the time cus I look like I’m from the islands but I just say I’m BA with a touch of this n that

Idc how you feel. By definition muddled is what happening to us. They stripped our ancestors of their actual culture and tribe’s history. OUR “culture” starts at slavery when it all blended into one. Culture is contemporary and def is a blob, which I didn’t even speak on.
devanttay@devanttay

1.) Describing BA as “muddled” lineage and highly insulting. I’m not sure if you describe Caribbean or Black Latino ethnic histories as simply “muddled”. Our culture and history is not blob. 2.) I’ve never seen a white man tasked with explaining their family tree for validation.

@nylabby97 The statement was less of indictment of yt ppl and more of the questioner in the first place. And if BAs are the built off losers, who were the winners? Maybe I’m misinterpreting.

@nylabby97 We do take pride in our culture here, hence our position in America as our place of origin. As oppose to the “we don’t know who we are/where we come from” response that everyone expects when they disingenuously ask the question.

Unless they are being intentionally explicit, most white people (from my experience and observation) will simply tell you where they are from in America with no pushback seeking to invalidate them. If they say they’re from Texas or Florida. It just is.

@devanttay Cus they’ll happily give it meanwhile we have a muddled lineage. It’s like they want to remind us we were forced here and separated from our kin

I never see the “where are you really from” question ever aimed at white people. Only us.

@TylynnJ45565 She literally described gerrymandering and the plan to remove black people from power. Even spoke on ethnic alliances and rivalries. She got called all in 2021 on the floor in realtime.

@NotAntXIV I went to college in Charlotte. It was always new people coming, but it ballooned overnight. Particularly from the Northeast. NC in general is a hotspot for transplants at this point, and the natives aren’t really prioritized. But definitely the major cities.

@devanttay Didn’t realize that many transplants moved there. I was just talking about this with someone on Saturday.

Charlotte is very very very much the South. It’s just a transplant city.

@grittywuzhere It’s very commendable, considering he had question marks earlier on. You can see he’s putting his best foot forward with his career.

@LexDiamonds__ It’s hard not to see. I seen people perpetuate that type of thinking subconsciously. I can argue that we are living with the end results of people internalizing those ideas.

@devanttay That’s why I wish them cats didn’t do that “modern sensibilities” shit because their work has real merits, we are proof. Saying fathers don’t matter in the home really is just coded language about us saying we don’t matter & it’s always been about that.
