"Mene, mene, tekkel upharsin". Causes have effects. How can we tell the dancer from the dance? Angels and bodhisattvas dance on pinheads. Cognitive psych.

@areyoflight Ian follows the script for all franchises of the Reflabatory uniparty: pensions are not social insurance paid for by a lifetime of work, they are government largesse which must be sacrificed to pay for valuable activities such as war, healthcare contracts and digital ID.

🚨 NEWSFLASH: Over half of that £333bn - the single biggest chunk - is state pensions. 👀 Yep, that's right…pensions are benefits. Monthly payments, funded by today's workers and taxpayers. They’re contributory benefits but still included in the overall welfare bill. 💸 The headline sounds apocalyptic until you remember what's actually in the total. Iain conveniently left that little nugget out 🤷‍♀️
LBC@LBC

“Now that is frightening.” @Iaindale reacts to welfare benefits spending overtaking income tax revenue for the first time in the UK's history.

@malcolm_reavell Malcolm, your analysis is lacking. I can afford to invest in a ponzi scheme, but that is not much of a case for cost-efficiency - particularly if I'm dead before the unaccountably-delayed maturity date finally happens.

@BladeoftheS It's been going on for longer than that. Look at the drop in actual personal wealth over 50 years. In 1980 you could afford to buy a home or live in a council house on a single family income. You could expect job security and a reasonable pension at a reasonable age. All gone.

There is only one reason the UK has been stuck in 18 years of Austerity. It is to protect the profits of the richest at the expense of everyone else. It is time for them and their profits to destroyed for the damage they have done to everyone else.

Very bizarre that the @guardian have allowed Stella Creasy to try and link me with Tommy Robinson in her article today. Full exchange - where Stella says we need to strengthen our relationship with Trumps US is linked below. If anyone is being abusive here - it's not me!

Labour are complicit in a genocide. Labour are pretending we have a nuclear deterrent despite the fact it doesn't work & relies on Donald Trump. And all the while - they're got nothing substantial to say because they've tied our national security to the USA. Some patriots. 👇🏼

@snowleopardess The strategy seems to be to asset-strip the NHS and sell off or outsource potentially profitable services like radiology. Reducing staffing levels means lower costs - more attractive. Except to patients, but if they can't afford private care sod 'em, right?

It makes no sense. Unless Streeting and Starmer are intentionally running down the NHS.
Saul Staniforth@SaulStaniforth

.@fletchjack explains that a shortage of radiologists in the north east means that a specific live saving strike treatment can't be provided, and yet the NHS is turning away 3,000 fully qualified doctors who want to be radiologists! How does this make sense?

@D_Raval Since the decision is both moral and legal, and since it appears that Streeting knows nothing about either, perhaps it's not a decision he is capable of making.

This is nonsense. Streeting is a senior Cabinet member he would have the briefing on why the UK didn’t join the US attack because it would be illegal. He knows the attacks now are war crimes but is too chicken to say so. He’s no PM in waiting.
Declassified UK@declassifiedUK

Health secretary Wes Streeting is asked whether Trump's strikes on Iran's civilian energy infrastructure would be a war crime. "Not my judgement to make", he replies.

@LindaSayle But child poverty is a British tradition. How can we have chimney sweeps and cheap labour without impecunious waifs? Creasy clearly feels that reducing child poverty is so abnormal it requires justification. Labour, standing up for tradition (as long as it isn't civil rights).

@JackJon90392628 @David__Osland It started long ago, with the first Blair government and Brown's attack on final salary pensions which was designed to encourage corporate raids on pension savings.

@fredulosity @David__Osland You mean like we have to do now with Defined Contribution pensions? We save like crazy based on government promises, until some crazy lady with no economic experience becomes Chancellor and starts pulling the rug from under you?

When I started paying National Insurance contributions in 1976, the deal was that I'd get a pension providing for a basic standard of living in a then-unimaginable 50 years' time. But now I've finally got there, it's just half the minimum wage.

@David__Osland Yes. The problem has been decades of neoliberal rot in which the country has been parasitised by what amount to corporate aphids busily offshoring liquidity. The froth they use to hide their work is division: "boomers", "woke", "lefties", "migrants" are all just distractions.

'Boomers' aren't responsible for the state of Britain. Responsibility rests with the Thatcherites and Blairites who took away secure well-paid jobs, strong trade unions, social housing, free education, final salary pensions and publicly owned utilities.

This is the problem when you think it’s your job as a government to start meddling in music festival line ups. You’re going to be expected by the media to apply your moral standards consistently. Should’ve just let the BBC show Kneecap at Glastonbury and focused on cost of living
