The degree to which the actions behind painful or violent conflict are simply sadness - and the frequency with which that elects surprise from those involved - suggests a significant alienation from the lives we’re living. We don’t know conflict because we don’t know ourselves.

Fear of conflict is also often fear of grief, of feeling the loss that accompanies broken connection, safety and trust. There is a depth to community that is not always felt until it is damaged or lost, and there being such depth to something newly found as fragile terrifies us.
