While the netas who won are busy with their own celebrations, we cut a cake after the news meeting today to recognise the effort of the teams that helped deliver a blockbuster result on verdict day. It’s 2026 and suddenly we are being forced to see politics through the lens of Brahmin, Kayastha, OBC and caste identities. In Bengal, we never defined our Chief Ministers and ministers by caste. They were known for their work, ideology, profession, and their role as guardians of the people. This kind of caste-driven politics was never Bengal’s culture. Truly shocking!

Was the trespasser a Muslim? This sounds like a suicide mission and we all know how much Muslims love killing Americans on airplanes. What type of person is driven mentally to run out onto an airport runway in the middle of the night during takeoff to potentially kill a plane full of 231 people? What type of person would do this? It sounds like a suicide mission… The person who did that would have known they could cause a plane to crash… This should be investigated as possible terrorism. @SecDuffy

Chief Minister elect C. Joseph Vijay must invite DMK president M.K. Stalin, AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami & BJP State President Nainar Nagenthran for the swearing in ceremony and ensure that they get seated prominently in the first row. He shouldn't do what former Chief Minister Jayalalithaa did to Mr. Stalin. They are only political rivals, there shouldn't be anything personal.

It was Modi who, with fanfare, announced the creation of the Chief of Defence Staff (CDS) institution in 2019. And it is Modi who — since the death of the first CDS, General Bipin Rawat, in a tragic helicopter crash in 2021 — slowly but steadily has hollowed out that very institution, with the just-announced appointment of the next CDS only confirming how disastrously the CDS experiment has veered off course. Both the authority and purpose of the CDS institution have been eroded by the government that set it up.
Modi created the CDS post to establish a “single-point military adviser” capable of providing impartial tri-service advice and reducing bureaucratic barriers between the armed forces and the prime minister. Yet the government has increasingly transformed the office into a politically managed bureaucratic position within the Ministry of Defence.
As the BJP slogan aptly says, “Modi Hai To Mumkin Hai” (When Modi is there, anything is possible).
