@TejasKumar_ @arcinternet Huge plus one. Restrictive eating is never good for my mental health. Healthy habits are, but if you crave that damn cookie, go for it. I also actively tell myself “I’m proud of me” whenever I allow myself to skip a workout. “Healthy” doesn’t look the same for everyone.

Honestly if browsing the web on a quest was more enjoyable, I'd use ChatGPT/AI tools less. Thankfully there's great work by @arcinternet and others that make the web more fun to use, but how did we get this far?

@thekitze A friend of mine was charges £100 for replacing a light bulb lol Apparently even a bulb that was already burned out when he moved in, but he didn’t have proof of that. Annoyingly a lot of folks at this point decide to just pay up to not waste more time with courts, mediators etc

my landlord is insane. we were paying ~1200 euros every month. we were never late with a payment or broke anything. we paid him around 30k in the last 2 years. we left the apartment today. yesterday I hired a cleaner for the entire day and my dad helped me repaint and repair all the minor things. this motherfucker walks in today and he says that we forgot to clean inside the oven and there's a small stain on a drawer inside the freezer? started calculating how much would it cost for a cleaner to clean that ... ?!?! then on the final list of "broken" things he wrote "one missing light in garage" and he'll take LITERALLY 2 EUROS BACK FROM MY DEPOSIT. JESUS CHRIST.

@elibelly Huge +1! I honestly thought I wasn’t allergic to this country (after suffering every year in Austria), but this year is proving me wrong 😭 the last week has been particularly itchy and annoying

@engineering_bae Just over 5yrs now. Reasons I stayed are 1) company culture 2) stream of opportunities to keep growing. I’ve had incredibly supportive EMs who always found that next opportunity that was slightly outside my comfort zone. That growth has also been recognised with 2 promotions :)

@NavyTomP @MegaBaumTV @blythlie I would even say it’s a red flag for me if he _insists_ on paying for everything. Too big a chance of outdated gender roles in play, plus, I also want to get to show my appreciation for the other person this way. If they get one round, I can get the next or pay for dinner eg

Not true. I know us Italians are probably but the the first date is the key to starting the whole relationship. You only get one first date. If correct it’s the best date. You only get they feeling once. As a man it is a sign of respect to the girl that you are worthy of dating her and she is worthy of dating you. Respect is and never will be outdated. If you don’t have a lot money, that’s okay lots of places you can go and pay for both of you. To me if she paid for half it’s not a date anyway. Thanks

My friend has a date tonight. She wore high heels, a silk dress and a long coat with a matching tiny bag. The man texted her to ‘remind’ her to bring her wallet because they’ll be splitting the bill. She changed into sneakers, jeans and a sweater. I’m still laughing.

@GergelyOrosz @a_sankov Maybe the candidate was just “shopping around” but happy where they are. At least for me, it’s much easier to set boundaries like this one if I’m not desperate for a job.

@a_sankov It’s a free market. If a candidate doesn’t want to do another interview, there’s probably other reasons behind it, and they are saying they’re done with this process. Perhaps they have more promising interviews or an offer coming. Perhaps they didn’t like what they saw. Etc.

A great example of some hiring managers thinking they are doing job seekers a favor w inviting them to further interviews. In reality, every interview is one more barrier. Not everyone will jump through them: and that is fine! It’s not entitlement: it’s the free market at work.

@baaz @eparreno I honestly don’t think so :) I have worked with several on previous teams and my dad (64) has never had a problem finding employment either. It’s important to have a good mix of depth and breadth on teams. Growth doesn’t have to be in leadership skills, it can be purely technical

@eparreno This sounds good but since continuous career growth seems to be the accepted norm, won't potential employers look at me at 50 and say: why are you still doing just coding? What's wrong with you? 😅 (or think the same without saying it out loud)

I'm 45 and have been doing web development for more than two decades. I should be an engineering manager or a staff engineer but I enjoy making/developing/engineering stuff more than ever and none of the classic career path would allow me that. What's my career path?

@ParissAthena The problem is once again racism, right? There are “good” 2nd languages (eg being (half) British, raised in Germany), and there are “bad” 2nd languages (eg being (half) Turkish in Germany). Both are a privilege, and I wish I had grown up bilingually, but only one opens doors.

Conceptually, our framework uses neural networks - specifically LLMs - at its core, and composes operations based on task-specific zero-shot or few-shot prompting. [2/n]

We are excited to present our work, combining the power of a symbolic approach and Large Language Models (LLMs). Our Symbolic API bridges the gap between classical programming (Software 1.0) and differentiable programming (Software 2.0). GitHub: github.com/Xpitfire/symbo… [1/n]

@mpjme What if the shared washing machine breaks? If a small one breaks, only one tenant can’t wash. Also, more expensive to get a big dryer for everyone if only one tenant needs one. The cost is more than just negotiating use and maintenance, and making sure everyone cleans the filter.

As a person with multiple years of using microfrontends at Spotify I can with some authority say: microfrontends makes as much sense as roommates washing clothes with individual, tiny washing machines in their room, because they cannot deal with the discomfort of negotiation.
Lee Robinson@leerob

A commonly used but largely misunderstood word: a "microfrontend". What's the "right way" then? Because I've heard 15 answers. Someone good at the economy please help.

@Jack_Franklin Honestly, the biggest difference I see is that there’s no way in hell this wouldn’t lead to general elections in other countries. Maybe it’s the fact many countries have an elected president rather than a representative monarch who can dissolve government?

@TejasKumar_ It’s so toxic to call it “quitting” when you’re literally doing your job. So glad younger generations refuse to put work above anything else and raise awareness of unhealthy work/live balance. Also extremely privileged to work for a company that does actually care about me

“Quiet quitting” == doing exactly what’s expected of you and nothing more. Is doing exactly your job now considered quitting? Similarly, why is “meets expectations” considered a negative in so many companies? Shouldn’t that be a huge achievement while “exceeds” is an exception?
