We’re not angry because people say Koreans have bronze skin. We’re angry because some people insist that this is the “original” Korean skin tone and ridicule Koreans with lighter skin by calling them fake or accusing them of “white tanning.” Koreans can naturally be fair-skinned

We know we’re not white (Caucasian). Our skin generally has more yellow undertones. Could this be a translation issue where the Korean word for “fair/light skin” gets translated as “white”? We’re talking about having a lighter complexion, not being white as a race.

Becoming lighter is colorism, but getting a tan is fine? That logic might make sense in countries that were historically ruled by or heavily shaped by white colonial powers, but it doesn’t really apply to East Asia, where the context is different. x.com/raspberry00619…

More importantly, social classes disappeared over a century ago, and at no point in Korean history was social status determined by skin color itself. Fair skin was simply a preferred beauty standard, not a system that divided people into different classes based on their skin tone
