We often don’t talk about pre-mix. Organizing your tracks and cleaning up is setting yourself up for a successful mix.

Tonight, I had the most epic fail in the kitchen. I made a curry dish for my wife that tasted pretty rancid. The coconut milk I used was expired since 2016 🤦 #vintage

In studio, letting go of your phone is a great way to get in the zone faster.

1/2 Don’t be afraid to mute tracks in your production. I have a step before mixing where I go through each track and make selective mutes.

2/2 You’d be surprised how much clarity you get from that and cleaning off extra verb tails, tailoring your send effects, and it’s often a lot better/cleaner than just pushing more treble on your mix bus.

Making a mix extremely loud doesn’t make the song better. Just like screaming a joke doesn’t necessarily make it funnier.

Vocal harmonies are optional and not always necessary. Used well in the right context, they can be incredible! When unnecessary, they can cluster a record and alter your harmonic content.

Don’t be afraid of hard pans. The whole “mono compatibility” is genre and ARRANGEMENT relative.

Tip for recording vocals : “Monitoring is key. The singer needs to have a good vibe in their headphones. It’s also important not to hype the signal too much as they will tend to under perform. A good source for vocals is an ingredient for a successful mix”
