i always appreciated how this speech is after the depressing AI call that takes place before the final battle. this + the other snake + raiden conversation is snake (kojima by extension) snapping raiden (the player) out of that depressive mood and reminding him there is hope

I don't like how people focus on the ai colonel's speech as a pessimistic "kojima predicted it" thing when he ends the game like this 20 minutes later
