@MissAHadley As an MFL teacher, we cover the passive voice briefly at GCSE and in depth at A level - they never have a clue what it is in English 🤣

@norchcity Really hoping he comes in with a big swing! The general consensus is he needs to be strict on behaviour otherwise I think I’ll be looking elsewhere!

As an ECT I really hate this line. When a student has had poor behaviour all year and I follow the system their behaviour gets worse as their only relationship with me is sanction, irrespective of the ‘restorative’ conversations I have.

@norchcity We’re not ‘no exclusions’ but it was very rarely done. The worst behaved pupil (400 incidents this year alone) was PE’d but due to appeal he’s coming back 😭

@levimfl @Strickomaster Alright. You have identified a weakness, now you need to ask yourself how are you going to overcome it? Write down every sanction you give out, then and there. You have duty, make them stand with you while doing your duty, ask them to help you prepare. Plenty of things to do

@MrHistory92 @Strickomaster I agree with you - I think the main problem is the decentralised system bc if I give break/lunch detentions I’m either on duty, or have to prepare for afternoon classes or I just forget (or they do) so consequences are very inconsistent, which I suppose is my fault

@levimfl @Strickomaster that in my humble opinion is bollocks. You want silence, you insist on silence, you provide the consequences if they don't work in silence. Do that a few times and they will know what's expected

@MrHistory92 @Strickomaster I definitely use my own methods like adding minutes for them to stay etc but also not allowed to keep them at the end of the day and get push back when they’re kept at lunch 🫠 I have very good observations and am doing very well on paper, but some classes are a big challenge

@levimfl @Strickomaster After that, use your school's behaviour policy but don't be afraid to use your judgement as a teacher as well. One of the things I like to do when a class is being especially noisy is stick a time up on the board, explain that what ever that timer says is how long they stay

@MrHistory92 @Strickomaster Some pupils remove to leave or think it’s unfair bc others are disruptive. Also with after school detentions, some parents aren’t supportive and the school says that if the parent refuses then there’s nothing we can do

@MrHistory92 @Strickomaster I think the problem I’m facing is low level disruption is rampant so I’d have half the class removed every lesson. Not always clear where the line is for removing, just bc someone spoke over me? I have good BM but it’s unclear sometimes when to remove and when to continue

Of course some pupils have improved as the year has gone on but there are still pupils who have worsened and parents are either unsupportive or say they’re poorly behaved at home. I just find the pupils find any consequence an injustice as they don’t seem to be used to them

This is the main reason I want to leave education - my school have essentially said they cannot make pupils do any sanction, if they or their parent say no then that’s it…. needless to say behaviour is shocking
