The new section is titled "Great Manuals in History." Three of them were created deliberately to break through class barriers. One, from 1320, is the first martial arts manual (thanks to Kyle Wiens @kwiens for the tip):









A reminder: some problems have been solved. They’re simply gone. Here is the Brannock Device for measuring feet invented in 1927 and still in use. So durable are these contraptions that I bet a number of the things have been in continuous use, in fact. Something to strive for
