Why Docker was (re)written in Go.

Here's why we did it: 1. A compiled binary that didn't require installing a language runtime and therefore didn't trigger tribalism. Devops teams back then were fragmented across Python, Ruby and Java. Every tool written in one language would instantly get cloned in the others. So we wanted to avoid that. 2. We were all Python/C programmers and Go gave us the best of both. 3. The syntax was "mainstream" without too many niche or radical concepts. We thought this would help build a large contributor community. 4. We had a nerdy gut feeling that it was cool and new, and we wanted to play with it. We felt that other engineers would also feel that way, and Docker would benefit from that aura.

@ntdvps Oh man. Tetris again! I wrote one for Cisco in Tcl years ago. It was an extremely long and cold New Year holidays - I had to keep my SSH session busy with something. How this one was born? ;) PS: Tetris should certainly exist for every platform.

I really wish netengs in the SP/Ent markets wouldn't be so rigid/stubborn when it comes to the CLI. Yes, I understand the desire (and operational reasons) to exercise your muscle memory of wr mem all the things, but we did change the CLI for a reason, not because we wanted to make your lives harder — quite the opposite. You don't open a .go file and complain "oh I can't use print() here, who designed that shit?". It is painful to be an old dog and learn new tricks, I know, but if these new tricks outperform the old ones you learned - don't shy away from being open to learn them

Peculiar enough, it was not the technical deficiency that many thought would kill tech twitter when Musk fired hundreds of Twitter stuff, but somehow the shift in how the platform is being used did. At least in the networking field, many solely shifted to linkedin. We have been discussing this with networking folks for the past year how vastly deminshed the tech twitter value became.

@ntdvps @iximiuz @clabernetes @ntdvps "ncdu" is not wrong, but confusing. Similar output for Overlay2 (not VFS) - x2GB directories. However total disk space is only 3.6 GB. There must be some linking. The best post on this topic I was able to find: martinheinz.dev/blog/44 Not too deep, but useful.
