Luton became a municipal borough on 25 February 1876, giving the town the power to govern itself with its own elected council. Today a tree will be planted by Mrs Susan Lousada, His Majesty’s Lord-Lieutenant of Bedfordshire, Cllr Nicholls, Mayor of Luton & Local poet Lee Nelson.
