Leftist and liberals NEED each other. Circle the wagons, not the firing squad.

Just to be clear: the incoming Trump administration is going to war against their own GOP senate majority and the constitution's advice & consent provision so they can make a man investigated for *sex trafficking a minor* into the most powerful law enforcement officer in the country.

@RBReich 🙏🏼 If things progress as they seem to be, in 20 years or so Republicans will be Dixiecrats and Dems 100% establishment elites. Can this be reversed? Not sure.

The lesson of this election is that Democrats must attack inequality – and not cede working-class voters to Trump. The Democrats must become an anti-establishment party. theguardian.com/commentisfree/…

Elon Musk and Vivek Ramaswamy will have to divest their business holdings if they want to join the Trump administration, to avoid violating conflict-of-interest laws. So if Elon takes a job, could he be forced to sell his stock in Tesla? Or could he be forced to sell Twitter?

@chrislhayes There is a whole branch of mathematics on voting systems. Our current system is definitely the worst. Systems that let you give an opinion on multiple choices are better.

I could be wrong (and I hope I am), but I'm convinced Trump intends to shock and terrify the world, and frighten us all into obedience, in his first forty-eight hours. Do. Not. Comply. I won't list what I think will be in those Exec Orders. Read Project 2025. All at once. 6/6

@DavidOAtkins She didn’t even TRY to excite the base or turn out the vote! Dems never learn. Literally the same mistakes Clinton made.

I’m actually shocked how bad the college-educated white-women vote was! That literally the only demographic Harris tried to get!
Howard Gold@howardrgold1

@TimOBrien Again, college-educated white women voted 58-41 for Harris. Non-college-educated white women, like their white male counterparts, voted 2-to-1 TRUMP. It's getting boring pointing this out to people who have a pre-set narrative.

@highbrow_nobrow Even plain ol’, church approved, missionary sex with the wife will work just fine! Just need to keep a cup near the bed. If this was a real concern, ain’t exactly hard to come up with alternatives.

Genuine question: considering that inflation has come down sharply without a recession and attendant job loss, what should Biden have done about inflation that he didn't do?

@vanillaopinions I can’t find the numbers to prove it, but I believe this was a turnout issue more than a change in preference. I know youth vote was down and Harris failed to turn out the base. Some young men have been persuaded by the “alpha male” ridiculousness, but most still liberal.

can someone under the age of 25 explain why so many young people are voting republican now? like i'm 27 and it feels like my age and up this isn't really happening but the youth swings this election were massive

I owe Green Party voters an apology. Kamala Harris lost by 4.6 million votes. The Green Party didn’t even reach 650K. Democrats did not lose because of the Green Party. Establishment Democrats lost because they have abandoned the 40% of their party who voted for Bernie Sanders.

@digby56 Harris threw the base under the bus this time, but avoided the Real American part. She went for rich Republican women and failed miserably.

People are acting like Democrats have never tried adopting the allegedly authentic aesthetic of the Real American and threw their own base under the bus at every opportunity in the process. It didn't work any better, it really didn't. But hey, let's give it another round. Why not?

Ezra Klein looks a hell of a lot worse now that his gambit to kick Biden off the ticket was a catastrophe. And yes, Biden would have lost, but no, driving a train off a different cliff isn't better.

This is an important point. More than anything it was the inflation that killed the Democrats. While I still blame Harris for pushing the base away instead of trying to turn them out, this was an issue worldwide.
John Burn-Murdoch@jburnmurdoch

We’re going to hear lots of stories about which people, policies and rhetoric are to blame for the Democrats’ defeat. Some of those stories may even be true! But an underrated factor is that 2024 was an absolutely horrendous year for incumbents around the world 👇
