My last memory of John Sterling play-by-play was the Soto AB that sent the Yanks to the WS in 2024 out on the porch with my dad. I remember everything about listening to this game so vividly lol
I remember thinking it was a routine can of corn to center the way John made it sound and I put my head down for a sec. Then he does his whole HR shtick a second later pure fucking disbelief.
I watch this at bat way more often than I'd like to admit, specifically with the Sterling call😂
RIP to an actual legend

John Sterling called 28.7% of all games in #Yankees franchise history—including 47.5% of all postseason games.

“It’s amazing how minuscule the misses are”
but imagine how much impact a barrage of egregiously incorrect calls have affected the game over the years…

Absolutely electric lmao CB Buckner noticeably annoyed when he tapped the 2nd time only to be wrong again and listen to 40,000 people cheer for his incompetence 😂

They do it in the sun. They do it under the stars. They do it in biting April chill and punishing August heat. Baseball is enmeshed with – and an expression of – the season. And they play every day. The game is part of the daily routine. It is life, from April through October.

why does baseball seem so much more romantic than hockey to me maybe it’s because they do it in the sun
