My hot take is Louis Varland is too valuable in his current role to be the closer. He’s been an exceptional “fireman” if you will. He’s actually entered games in higher leverage this season than Hoffman.

Currently Kazuma Okamoto has been more valuable than Bo Bichette (will not obviously stay like that for the entire season) so no you wouldn’t.

I think that putting him on the 60-day is simply a technical move to create a roster spot and does not change his timeline at all.

It does not change his timeline.
As to why he opted in, it's a true headscratcher b/c from all accounts, he could have made more EVEN IF HIS INJURY/RECOVERY ISSUES WERE KNOWN

Lenyn Sosa's average exit velocity in 2025 (90.7 mph) would have ranked 5th on the Blue Jays
The hitting skills are certainly there for him to be a legitimate contributor for the Jays.

Can't say I *loved* that first half, but a lead is a lead. Raptors need to keep running out and trusting the hit-ahead passes (+19 FBP) and settle less for half-court offence. And still need to cleanup the boards.

Why risk it? A Hawks win guarantees them CLE in round 1.
