Football should be judged by the same standards for every player. These two incidents appear visually similar, yet they were treated differently. Fans deserve consistency from referees and disciplinary bodies, regardless of a player’s reputation or status.

Because those two are completely different, in this one the second Messi feels the calf of the opponent he doesn’t follow through with a stepping motion but instead releases his foot so that this is no extra forcible contact made with the studs. Why is this so hard to comprehend

Also, stop bringing the Messi incident into this when that wasn't a red card either.
We've already seen five or six similar incidents at this World Cup that weren't given as red cards.
If you're going to judge these consistently, you have to judge the action, not just the outcome.
